WGU and Straighterline courses

Published

I just enrolled in the US History 1 course through Straighterline to finish up my history prerequisite for the pre-licensure BSN program at WGU. To anyone that has taken this course or any other course through them, could you please tell me how the testing process works and what to expect. Is the test based on the material within the course or does a book need to be purchased? I feel a little lost at this point and welcome any info.

Thanks!!

Hi luna_moon, I did not take US History at Straighterline, but I did take Anatomy and Physiology II. I did not use the book that was suggested. Instead, I used online resources. I would imagine with US History it will be much easier to omit the book because you can just go by the course syllabus and google what you need to know. All the tests that you will do, is fairly straight forward. The exams themselves are timed. However, the only test that is proctored is the final exam everything else is not.

Thank you for the response? How was the proctoring? I feel a little uneasy about giving a complete stranger control of my computer.

Hi luna_moon, I felt the same way about the proctoring in the beginning. However, you get use to it. I just made sure I made my environment as stress free as possible when taking exams. Also, WGU uses ProctorU as well; thus, once you are in the program you will have an idea on how the proctoring for WGU will be. In my opinion, this is an advantage. I actually just finished taking one of the pre-nursing objective (exam) earlier today.

My advice would be this, I would create a new user account on your computer. I have one exclusively for taking the proctoring exams that way there are no files or internet browsing history that can be accessed.

centercourt- I must admit it wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. I read some real horror stories about this earlier today! Thank you for the advice on a separate user account, that is a great idea. How are you liking the program so far? I am finishing up the enrollment process and now that this History class is finished my transcripts can be evaluated. I am ready to move on!!

Congratulations on passing US History! I am really enjoying the program. At first I was very confused because the format is very different from what I was used to, however, after the second week you get the hang of things. My course mentor is great, I read some people who were not big fans of having to keep in touch every week but she has kept me motivated and is always encouraging. Some calls only last 5 minutes, but if I have a question she is always there to answer or if she does not have the answer she will find someone that does and will rely the information to me. To me, having a course mentor is such a valuable asset that really does differentiate WGU from other programs.

Which state are you in? Have you taken the TEAS V?

Hi- I am in TX what about you? Yes, I think having a mentor is a plus of the program. I like the idea of having someone to help motivate me and keep me on track. I have taken the TEAS V test before but it has been over 2 years ago so I am in the process of studying to retake it. I read the selection process is competitive and only a small amount get accepted, so I know I need to score well. Also I have been reading about some sort of boot camp??

I am doing the cohort in Indiana. Yes, I think that the more the program becomes known the competitiveness will just increase. The online ATI Pratice Exam was very helpful when I studied for the exam and also the official ATI booklet/study guide.

So in the 4th month of the first term you will attend 2 mandatory in person labs. This "bootcamp" will test your basic nursing skills that they will go over this first weekend and test you the following weekend. According to the program director no one has failed the bootcamp yet, so I am hoping all I and my cohort continue that streak in Sept. when we attend.

Thank you for the info! It's hard to find many posts here about the actual program and what it involves once you are accepted. Good luck with the boot camp in September!

I'm taking A& P with lab right now. I'm nervous about it as I'm not sure how I will do labs without an instructor. I'm doing it at site WGU told me to do to finish my pre reqs. I'm so nervous. How in the nursing program. I would be doing it at CA. I really want to do it here.
