Has anyone that planned on attending WGU this year hear that their approval status has been changed from from Full Approval with Warning to Conditional meaning they can not enroll students until their 2015 students pass the NCLEX with an 80% or more?

Yes, your information is accurate. It my take them a while to achieve the NCLEX improvements. Do you have a Plan B?
This BON ruling is applied to any school experiencing the same situation. It is intended to protect prospective students as well as the public.

Yes I have read on the Texas BON website about it. The restrictions are layed out there. But, it seems like the school is still letting students enroll, right? I have turned it all my documents, I am just awaiting a response from admissions. I am planning on enrolling next month, this year.
Do you have another plan? It would be great to hear it.
My plan b is to apply to Chamberlain college of nursing in Texas, they are a little expensive but they don't have a waiting list. I really don't want to go there since WGU is my first choice but I cant wait forever.
Hi Alvina,
I emailed my counselor concerning this issue and this is the email I got:
"The Conditional approval is only for our Prelicencure program (or any school with any licensure program requiring clinical hours). The BSN and MSN programs are not effected at all as they do not have clinical requirements.
The BON is looking into how it is done and making sure all schools meet the guidelines required, they are just in the process of updating and gathering research so are required to notify potential pre-RN students. "
I kind of of figured that because the status is "conditional approval" because of not meeting the minimum percentage of passing he NCLEX first time, and that has nothing to do with BSN Program. I will try to contact BON concerning this, but I am sure it doesn't affect my enrollment to WGU, and I am 80% sure I will be attending WGU.

Yes I was fully going to enter until I saw their scores. They are second from the bottom in the state for NCLEX scores next to Schreiner College. I think if this round doesn't do well the BON will shut them down, Very scary from many sides....a) why are your students not doing well on NCLEX ( direct reflection on instruction at the school, or quality of candidates selected), b) that's very stressful to any student enrolled should they shut down where in the world will you go? Nah I pass. Becoming a nurse is stressful enough without worrying if your entire program is about to go down the tubes that is the Preliscensure program.
the Board hereby CHANGES the approval status of the Western GovernorsUniversity Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Education Program in Austin, Texas, from FULLAPPROVAL WITH WARNING to CONDITIONAL APPROVAL and hereby imposes the followingconditions and requirements:1. The program shall not enroll students while on conditional approval status.2. The program will remain on conditional approval status until the program demonstrates apass rate for first-time candidates of at least 80% on the 2016 NCLEX-RN®examination. The NCLEX-RN® examination year is October 1, 2015 through September30, 2016.3. The program must demonstrate full compliance with Rule 215 prior to consideration of achange in approval status.

I think this has more to do with the students selected at WGU Texas than the program itself. I'm in another state and our pass rates have been in the 90-100%. Each state has its own director so the type of students selected will be dependent on the individual admission committee in that state. For example, WGU Utah NCLEX passing rates for their students have been 100% for the past 3 years (http://www.dopl.utah.gov/licensing/forms/nurse_NCLEX_pass_rates_RN.pdf).

I am in a Dallas cohort right now. Please don't shut us down!! lol. But seriously, I agree with the person who said that it is up to the state admission panel to decide who gets in. Maybe they are being too lenient. I feel very prepared to rock the NCLEX, and I still have a little less than a year to go. I notice a difference in myself and my colleagues. There are those who work hard, and those who do not. It shows. WGU gives the resources to be successful, but one has to work for it.

I'm really hoping they will be taking on an other class for the end of 2016 or 2017. I've been so excited to get my RN license. I've been a Emergency room tech for a level one hospitals for 10yrs now. Life kind of went crazy and I couldn't get back into school. I've always done classes online and very self motivated. What I thought I read was the program sizes are very small so when one or 2 don't pas it makes their % rate of course look bad. I agree maybe that are choosing the right students that what fit their program. I had 2 girlfriends that have went through here and have passed without problems. I'm praying they can figure something out and get these students passing.
I will be speaking with my advisor about my letter of intent that I sent in last week along with my resume on Wednesday the 20th. Will be taking the TEAS next month. All transcripts are in im 52% done as that's what my transcript evaluation stated :)

Just as an update to this thread, the Texas BON has now approved WGU. I was told my an admission person that the approval was granted in Oct based on their 2016 NCLEX Passing rate with ( if I'm not mistaken) was in the 90%.
I Plan to apply but I'm missing microbiology.
