WGU or Cal State for BSN

Updated:   Published

Hello, I would like some very honest advice. I am currently attending a community college to obtain my Associates degree and have been doing a lot of research for possible nursing programs. I currently work for a hospital facility but I work for the Urgent Care of the hospital. I am a medical assistant. I am thinking about nursing school along the way and was reading up on Western Governors University's nursing program. It has great reviews but you do have to be a self starter. I was also looking into Cal State Long Beach or even Cal State Dominguez Hills. I have A's and B's in my general ED classes so my GPA is very good. What is the best choice for me at this point? I considered Cal State's but I am discouraged about applying and maybe getting denied because of limited space. Any body who has gone to WGU I would like your honest reviews. Thank you so much.

With the difficulty in getting accepted to any nursing programs in CA, I would prioritize my choices and apply to them one by one until I get an acceptance letter.

That is a possibility. Of course I would like to go to a Cal State Univ. but I think WGU would be my Plan B.

WGU has an entire subforum here on AN. Look for it under 'students' tab or just put wgu into the search box above if you're in mobile view.

Thank you ! I will look into that (:

I suggest you apply to every CSU nursing program within a 50 mile radius of your home to increase your chances of securing an acceptance letter. I also suggest you apply to WGU's nursing program.

Also be open to CSULA, CSUF, CSUN, CSUCI, and so forth.
