Hey everyone,
I was wondering if someone here could give me some insight into these two programs. Which one has better clinical placements, which one prepares you better for a nursing career? I am a little unsure as to which program to choose. My heart tells me to go to Trent, but it is a longer program and much farther away from home. Any insight is appreciated it!
Thanks

I was offered Admission to both schools, and eventually decided on Western. Sadly I cannot give you any insight on the Programs, but what I did to help me decide was look at the structure of both Programs. I personally like how Western has everything structured, and it doesn't hurt that you graduate 9 months sooner (saves you time + money). I also have friends who attended Western's Collaborative Program, and absolutely loved their experience, and now all work in Hospitals back home.
I also briefly looked at NCLEX passing rates for 1st time test-takers, and last year 100% of those from Western's program passed, and I think it was somewhere around 87-88% for Trent's.
From what I've read, both are great Programs, and I don't think the difference between them will be too significant. It really comes down to where do you want to spend the next 2+ yrs, the city of London or Peterborough? Do you want to be at a large school, or a smaller, more intimate school?
Hi,
Thanks for your insight. I am still unsure as to what I want. I do like smaller schools, but I wish I had more information on their clinic placements, that would be the deciding factor for me. I want to do emergency nursing, and I am also interested in midwifery. My long term goal is nurse practitioner. I wish I knew with certainty which path is better.

Hey Meligp, I just finished Trents program and can tell you a little about it. If you are interested in emergency nursing, that placement is only available in your final placement. It also requires you meet certain grades in your pathophysiology and pharm, as well as taking an advanced patho/ pharm class. During your preconol and consol, you can choose to go anywhere you'd like to do your placement, as long as you are accepted of course.
The clinical placements prior to the final 2 semesters are done at hospitals in the area, either PTBO, lindsay, or cobourg. There are some options along the way (mat child vs mental health), as well as in your "3rd" year placements you can choose for your "chronic" placements (palliative, rehab floors) and "acute" (general medical, telemetry, surgery, ortho).
I also should mention I did my placement in emerg @ PTBO this year and really enjoyed it. If u have any more questions I can try and help. Goodluck
Thanks Dbras66, would you say that the program prepared you well to be a nurse? Im glad to hear you enjoyed your placements :).
