Hi Everyone!
I didn't see a thread started for this application cycle so I wanted to get one going. If there is one already started that I haven't seen feel free to redirect me. I applied for Western University's MSN-E program this fall for a start date of next fall. If anyone else is applying/has any news please share! Good luck to everyone!
Hello all!
I received the email saying I was accepted into the program as well yesterday. In my case, though, I was also accepted into Mount Saint Marys ABSN program that begins this May as well sooooo I have some thinking to do. Western was always my first choice but now I'm debating on what I should do. Any advice anyone? I could use any! Thank you!
@wheems you're not the only one. I personally turned Western down because of the ridiculously high tuition. I'm sure it's a great school with awesome professors and clinical experiences. Every student I've spoken with has loved the program, but the other ELM program I was choosing from would ultimately be $50,000 cheaper, and I decided that I just didn't want to be in that much debt after graduating. If Western were the same price as the other program, I most likely would've chosen Western. But the cost was a huge thing for me, especially since I already have a loan from undergrad. @mysunshine5 congrats on getting into both schools! I'd suggest making a pros/cons list and considering every little thing before making your decision.
Hey all. Congrats to those who have been accepted thus far.
The way I look at the high price tag is that WesternU already calculated most of the expenses you'll need to attend the school, which includes transportation, personal expenses, housing, etc. They don't expect you to work while in the program, so they'll create a student budget for your living expenses. If WesternU only displayed the price of tuition alone, it would be about the average of any private ELMSN or MEPN program in the state, and it wouldn't look as expensive as schools like Samuel Merritt or USD.
But, this is only my perspective, and this is probably the only way for me to accept paying that much for the program.
Emu -- Yeah! I'm also considering living with some relatives to save a little bit of money, but I'd preferably like to live with classmates because it makes things pretty convenient. My parents used to live in SoCal for 20+ years and I actually grew up in a city close to Pomona. They said Upland is a good area.. Claremont, Montclair, Chino Hills, and Diamond Bar are also good/safer areas also. I did a little bit of research and I agree it's pretty reasonable after you split the rent.
Hi everyone!
Congrats to those who have been accepted!
i have unfortunately not heard yet, and trying to stay positive and convince myself that not all acceptances have gone out yet, ugh! In past threads I've read it seems to be waves of acceptances, but who knows. Has anyone talked to admissions about whether all acceptances have gone out??
i still have not heard back yet. I called the admission office this morning and was told that I shoudlve recieved an email on March 6th. Im assuming that it is a rejection letter since most rejection letters were sent out on that day. I was told that I will be recieving another email today.

not just you. i think its ridiculously crazy expensive. on interview day when they had all the introductions about tuition, i was less excited and left the day not so comfortable going there for school. I think if I were to get in, I don't think I would go. Especially with this economy, I don't want to graduate nursing school having to worry about getting a job and a huge loan. Not saying Western isn't a good school but from a financial standpoint, I don't think its worth it.
