Western University MSN-E 2014

Published

Hi Everyone!

I didn't see a thread started for this application cycle so I wanted to get one going. If there is one already started that I haven't seen feel free to redirect me. I applied for Western University's MSN-E program this fall for a start date of next fall. If anyone else is applying/has any news please share! Good luck to everyone!

I got the email last Tuesday @RoseGold

Hi all! I also have been following the thread just haven't participated, until now! I interviewed 1/24 and don't be nervous! I can't talk I was a nervous wreck but just remember that the hard part is over, you looked good on paper now just be yourself!

Agree with everyone. I think I was more nervous about the writing sample just because no one can really tell you what it is all about. I was glad to get that piece over first. Basically they split the group into 3 smaller groups, one goes on the tour, one does the writing and the other starts the interview. I think it is perfectly okay to be nervous - they expect people to be nervous.

In my experience it was all pretty good. The interview is a standard format they follow for all candidates. There is a mix of personal questions, understanding nursing and study/work style questions. They were very nice (no good cop/bad cop) and I felt comfortable talking to them. The only thing I found distracting was that they were recording the interview and from time to time they had to look down at the tablets to do something. That made me feel like I had to hurry up (although it was not really the case).

@TLeeM

They were recording the interview?! I didn't know that!!! When I interviewed I did notice the iPad glances alot but it didn't bother me just cause I thought they were just searching for typed up questions. How did you know you were being recorded?

They told me at the beginning of the interview.

Wow. I must have been THAT nervous in the beginning that I didn't even hear when they told me that lol

Not sure if they made that a standard statement, but they had the tech guy in there when I was coming in - technical issues. They may have just mentioned it then, but I seem to recall them telling me - we are recording and need to adjust the recorder from time to time, but do not let that distract you. Yeah, right! The recording piece did not distract me - it was one of them looking at and touching the tablet that did. LOL.

I don't remember any recording that was happening. Holy crap.

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. I feel a lot less nervous now, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow! So when you break up into groups, is the interview in groups or individual ?

It is individual. You and two staff from the school of nursing. It can be administrators or professors.

I had no clue it was recorded! Were we really that nervous we missed it? I doubt that, I don't think I was informed. Anyway, I am already hating this waiting game. I was interviewed on the 23rd. Everything went smooth for me except for the writing portion. I did not know what they expected and I felt like I had very little time to write something impressive. Anyone care to share the length of what they wrote? Thanks.
