I am enrolled in the MSN program starts June 1, w nursing leadership, I am still waiting for a mentor and a degree plan. When does the degree plan come up on my portal? Can I do advance research?studying?

I am currently enrolled in the RN-BSN program and have two classes left. Once you meet with your student mentor, they will help you set up your degree plan. I personally would hold off on studying until after you talk with your student mentor. Your student mentor will contact you shortly before you are supposed to begin.

I wasn't in the MSN or BSN program but I was in the elementary education program for two terms before I decided to switch to BSN prelicensure... I was able to study almost two weeks ahead of my official start date but I couldn't take any tests or submit assignments. You should be able to access your courses and everything once they get your degree plan on your dashboard, I would imagine. Not sure if that would be any different for your program so I would suggest waiting until May. You will have contact with your enrollment counselor until probably the week before or week of your start date and after that it'll be your student mentor, so you can email or call your EC and see what they say too.

I got my BSN and MSN from WGU, graduated with the MSN this past December.

My tips:

Reach out to the course mentors. They are awesome, love being contacted and really seriously make everything easier and clearer.

Set yourself deadlines and stick to them. Procrastination is your enemy in the WGU program.

Don't be afraid to take the pretest before you access the course materials. This is how you "test out" of classes you are already competent in. If you pass the pretest by a good margin you likely will pass the actual exam as well.

Get PERRLA to help format your papers in APA style. This literally saved me HOURS of work on my papers. They are getting very strict about APA formatting.

Get on the Facebook support group pages for your field of study. Contact with other students helps a lot.

I recently finished the MSN-Ed at WGU. My tips:

When you start the course, look at the rubric for the assessment first thing. Format your headings in your paper with the rubric headings so the evaluators can easily find your content.

Pick topics that are interesting but also well-researched. If you pick a very narrow or new topic that lacks evidence, you will find yourself in a headache.

Watch the pre-recorded cohorts. They often direct you on the assessment.

I have applied to this program at WGU and I am trying to decide between University of MD and WGU. WGU would take half the time to complete and cost about 1/5 of the what MD would cost. I guess I am just mildly nervous about the "big name" of MD when compared to the lesser known WGU. Did you find it difficult to obtain a job concentrating in your MSN degree from WGU? That is my only fear.
