Hey everyone. I'm still young and getting a job is years away (5

to be exact) lol. But I'm still planning. Do you think the job market will be good for nurses in WV in 5 years? I mean, of course the shortage. But is there a need for nurses in WV too?

I live in northern Fayette county, about 40 minutes south of Charleston. So I'd be interested in all the hospitals:CAMC, Thomas, Saint Mary and/or Francis, Montgomery. Also the Oak Hill and Beckley hospitals.

Do you think I'll have trouble finding a job? Because I would really, really hate moving out of state. In fact, I wouldn't. I'd just work a minimum wage until I found one.

Also, I send my love out to all of you living in WV. And everyone.

Hi Layla, I live in Fayette County too. The job market is much tighter here than a person might expect, even for nurses, but there are still jobs. Are you planning to be a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse. Are you interested in hospital work only? Are you planning on taking the classes required for entrance into college? Have you been exposed or do you plan to expose yourself to health care settings? Do you understand that nursing is a 24 hour a day/7 days a week type job? That means that hospitals and nursing homes need staff coverage 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. Clinic's operate about 5 to 6 days a week, depending on the doctors. Nursing is a demanding job, dealing with the public, especially when there is illness involved can be very hard, but it is a rewarding profession with many opportunities. Good Luck.

Layla,

I don't think you'll have any problems finding work as a nurse. I live in Mason county, I graduate in December and I'll probably stay in Mason County and work at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Pt. Pleasant. Where are you going to school? Good luck with your education. I go to WVU-P in Parkersburg.

I wish there would be more interest in the WV Nurses Forum. I think its fun to compare schools, instructors, etc.

Layla,

I think there will be plenty of room for you as a nurse in 5 years.

Remember the baby boomers? I think barefoot lady has a good idea about exposing yourself to the field. There is a shortage in WV and I think the reason is terrible pay and vanishing benefits. I have worked with a LOT of very unhappy ladies and gents who say that they hate nursing. I have become discontent myself but I can't imagine doing anything else. It can be very rewarding. Good Luck
