Hi all, I'm kind of having a hard time deciding which college to go to for my BSN (assuming I get accepted to both). The posts on this site about West Suburban haven't been very encouraging but the program is only 17 months which is a HUGE bonus to me. I have visited Chamberlain and I liked the campus, but I feel like it's so.....FOR profit (i.e. they don't accept some of your transfer credits so that you have to retake them at Chamberlain). Most of that feeling comes from what my advisor Muriel is telling me. But anyways, can people from Westsuburban or Chamberlain comment on this? Any feedback would be appreciated :)

Pretty easy choice if I was in your shoes.
WSCN has a better reputation and is a better school. I'd pick WSCN over Chamberlain because it seems like they care more about getting paid than actually teaching people how to be good nurses.
Thanks for your input! All the people I have asked have only been familiar with ONE of the colleges so they couldn't compare. It's nice to hear your opinion....I just decided on WSCN yesterday :)

I am going to WSCN as well this fall =)
Nice :) If I get accepted I'd start in Spring 2011. Is it hard to get into West Suburban? How was the TEAS exam?
Congrats and good luck to both of you.
thank you!
they have a new guaranteed admissions program, you have to have an overall gpa of 3.0, a micro, a&p, and chem gpa of 3.0 and a teas of 80. at their open house last month (i think) they said they get about 300-500 applications and can only take 60 for the generic program a semester, and 20 for the night and weekend. so i would suggest apply very early! i applied early and i made the guaranteed admissions criteria so i go in during the semester i wanted. i am sure you will get in just fine!
the teas is okay, i would highly suggest getting the study guide. it would help you a lot, i feel like math was the hardest subject for me since i have always depended on a calcuator, so i had my boyfriend who has taken calc 1-3 and is moving on to the next higher maths give me a hand with some of the basic stuff that i didn't understand. i would look through the study guide once then go back to things you went 100% comfortable with and you should do fine.
Thanks KB24.
They only take 60 people??? Oh my gosh. I have above a 3.0 in those categories you mentioned but I feel like the TEAS is going to be really hard. My advisor at WSCN said that most people don't make 80 and usually get a score in the 70s. I haven't taken Chem since high school and a lot of people are saying that the Teas V is Chem-heavy in the science portion. Would you say that's true?
Congrats on getting in btw, Katiebaby4848!
The science portion of the teas was very wide spread, even with a very few geology questions. I don't think there was a lot of chem, but I would study that study guide for sure! I studied a study guide that wasnt the actual teas study guide (the NLN study guide) I feel I would have done better if I would have had the actual study guide. I am sure you will do fine!
and thanks a bunch, good luck to you!!

Hey everyone!
I am looking into wscon and you know I have heard bad things in the past about this school, but I mean there are alway people who complain. THe thing is why have you guys chosen west sub? According to their school website, their NCLEX pass rate for 2009 was 97% which is above amazing! SO i mean i can see they are improving which makes me happy. If you have visited the school, how was it? Any information regarding this school would be highly appreciated. =)
Thanks kb4848, I'm definitely going to study the study guide.
The feedback about wscn on this site is mostly negative. Luckily one of my friend's friends goes to wscn now and I talked to her about it and asked her what she thought. She basically said she has a love/hate relationship with the school. They've improved a lot since a couple years ago, but the administration can still be unorganized. I personally met with a counselor at wscn and I felt like it was a good choice. I'm aware of all the negative things people say about the school but I think the positives outweigh the negatives for me. The program is only 17 months and that is a HUGE plus. I've been wanting to be an RN for a long time and the sooner the better. Oh and I really felt like Chamberlain was just interested in nickel and diming people. I'm sure u can get a good education there, but I just didn't get a good feeling from them - especially since my admissions advisor was so unhelpful at times.
