Wellness Nurse in Assisted Living Community. Experiences?

I have an interview this coming Thursday afternoon for a 7-3 LPN Wellness Nurse position in a AL community and was wondering if anyone who has worked in AL would like to share your experiences good and bad?

My background is in LTC for more than 20 years collectively and I currently work in a wound healing clinic. Although I love the hours and benefits, the job itself is nothing like I expected. The grass is truly not greener on the other side. It gets very old and exhausting running your legs off 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and spend the weekend exhausted, not feeling like doing anything.

I have Fibromyalgia, Neuropathy, Spondylithiasis and spinal stenosis and I hurt all the time. I am ready to slow it down and was wondering if AL is a good choice for someone with my "issues."

BTW, I was told I would get anywhere from 25-40 hours a week which is fine with me. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as pay for a LPN Wellness Nurse in the South?

Thanks! :)

Good luck at your interview. Let us know how it goes. I just applied to a posting for a health & wellness nurse, and was also wondering what to expect in this position. I am eager to see the responses.

Have never worked ALF and have really little to help you with. I have just one issue to ssuggest checking out at interview --- ask about any ON-CALL responsibilities. Just so you're not surprised ...

Decided to pass on the interview after the many terrible reviews I read online about the management company. Don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire, so the search continues.

If you decide to pursue another job at an ALF, go for it. I have worked in one for nearly 3 years and love it. The residents are still with it enough to be constant entertainment, and pretty happy for the most part. This is their homes. We have about 57 residents at mine, and up until 2 weeks ago, had one nurse per shift plus DON on 1st. Some days were very hectic, but most days were manageable. I would say GO FOR IT!!

Thanks Casper! I'm still on the lookout for a position with a reputable ALF. If I had read at least 50% good reviews about the management company I would've gone to the interview, but out of probably 100 reviews only a handful of past and present employees had anything decent to say about them. I've been burned too many times and want to play it safe at this point.
