hi everyone!:)
i'm in my mid 20's and i just decided i wanted to become a nurse...again. when i was 18 years old, i was a nursing major but i felt like i wasn't smart enough so i decided to change my major to sociology. i love helping people and i enjoy the presence of nurses. now that i'm getting older, i don't feel like i have much time to waste... again. i do regret not sticking to nursing and i would be happier if i tried harder than feeling bad for myself. so this coming fall, i will be taking human anatomy & physiology 1 with lab and another class. i'm scared not being good enough but this time i want to give it a try. i am planning on being a cna while in school so that will help me with my fear. any advice? thanks :redbeathe

Keep your sense of humor. Nursing schools are programmed to weed people out. Not all faculty are likeable and even if you fall, you need to get

I don't have a lot of advice for you but just wanted to let you know that I am in the same boat. I did the same thing, except I will be 30 this year and have five kids now. I'm still scared but I did take A&P1 this summer and surprised myself with an A. You will probably surprise yourself too. I thought I would start off slow and build up in classes but now I am finding myself wanting to add more and more classes, I'm so excited.
You can do it, stick with it.
Excuse me.... 5 KIDS?? That just sounds painful! Yikes! I guess congrats is in order?

vegas2009 - I guess your comment was necessary.
Anyway, I feel your doubt! I graduated high school with a B- average and now feel like I'm not good smart enough. However, this summer I surprised myself by taking 2 summer courses that would transfer (and are required for my major). I got an A in my sociology class. I am now in the 5th and final week of my nutrition class and I am surprised to say I will probably be getting a B+ in that class. The class is extremely difficult in that the test questions are really comprehensive but I always manage to get enough right that with the curve I get a mid to high B in the tests. Its all about the effort and putting your all into your studies that will get you results. Keep your eyes on the prize!

Don't ask yourself if you will succeed, spend your energy figuring out how to succeed. Then you will.

I am 25 and I have a four year old and I work full time. I recently decided that I wanted to go into nursing...instead of accounting where I am. This fall I take A&PI, which is my last pre-req before applying to nursing school! I wish that I would have stuck with it before, but I kind of feel like I will be more successful this go around because of my daughter. I feel bad because it seems like every moment of freetime I have is spent studying. So today I signed her up for soccer...even though it will be another thing that I have to fit into our busy week, it will be something that is all for her! Good luck with A&P this fall....fingers crossed for an A!
I've been getting my Masters for the past 1.5 years so I understand. The way I look at it, we are a family and sometimes my kids have to be patient while we do something important. Hang in there.
thank you everyone for genuine responds.:) i don't feel alone that much anymore. all of us go through a struggle to get what we need/want. i guess its never too late.:anpom:i'm tired of ppl always putting an age to success.
@jonb04- i will be taking the class this coming fall so i'm planning to study a week advance so i won't feel overwhelmed.
thats great ill be doing the same. I function better reading little by little and not cramming information
Yep, 5 kids. Two of my babies we were fortunate enough to be able to adopt. So they are all close but it's not as hard as everyone thinks. The main thing is they are all good sleepers and all of them still take a nap, some two a day.
I started studying for A&P1 about two weeks ahead. First was just out of a "For Dummies" book until I got my text. It did help. I studied/did homework for about two hours a day BUT it was an online class in the summer. So obviously it may not take you that much time. I usually did not study on the weekends either unless a major exam was the following Tuesday. I also would leave my "For Dummies" book in the car and read a paragraph or two of the correlating chapter to my text when I was waiting on the kids to get out parents day out or my son to get out of tutoring. Main things to really sink your teeth into early are muscles, bones, atoms and some cell information. This stuff seems to be a major part of the course and will take up a lot of time. If you can learn a new muscle and bone a day even when you are in other chapters, you won't feel so overwhelmed when you get to them. We had CD ROMs for lab, that used real human cadavers and the labeling tests on it was what helped me learn these the best.
