Anybody here work as a RN in Weatherford or know of the current hiring climate for new grads there?

Trying to get some info on how you like living there, things to do,etc.

And if the hospital is hiring new grads, that would be good info to have also.

Thanks!

I live in W'ford but work in Ft. Worth, and have never worked there, so I can't speak to the hiring climate, but I can speak to living there. Parker County is growing, and there is pretty much everything you need out there without having to go to "the big city", lol. Movie theatre, ample dining, shopping (no mall, but several dept stores). Even with the construction going on 20, traffic is generally not a problem. It is quiet, country living which I love. If you have or are interested in horses, it is the place for you! Many small acreage homesites, but lots of very nice subdivisions. Not far from the Brazos. Pretty easy commute to Ft. Worth hospital district (I live on the west side of W'ford and the school that I work at is close to the hospital district. Takes me 45 minutes give or take. If you live closer to the east side of Weatherford or Aledo area, you can knock off 15-20 minutes from that).

I've only lived there about a year and a half (moved from Ft. Worth), but I'd be happy to try and answer any questions you have.

Lived in the Metroplex a few years ago, spent time in Irving, Lewisville and The Colony (slowly making our way to Oklahoma...) Moved away for awhile and looking to come back.

Just looking for a friendly place to raise a family of 4, kids are 14 and 11. But also a place where adults can have a little fun too. On top of that wouldn't mind being walking or bike riding distance from work.

There are some subdivisions close to the hospital in W'ford. Mostly older homes but mostly well kept and nice ones. Keep in mind Parker Co. is mostly an ag/rural type county, much more so than Tarrant county or the suburbs of Dallas. Lots of cows, horses, and livestock in the area. Aledo is closer to Fort Worth and is a nice compromise between the rural and urban life, but there is no hospital close enough to bike, you'd commute either to FTW or W'ford.

There are going to be several new hospitals being built in the area over the next few years, so if you are not in a hurry, maybe wait and see what happens. Hubby is in construction equipment so he has the inside scoop on what is coming up in the area. Good luck!

The W'ford hospital website says they will consider new grads. I had a friend who applied and was offered a position (we graduated in Dec), but turned the job down as something in another area came up that she wanted. I live in FTW. I applied, but have since been hired elsewhere so I can't speak to how it is out there. I just met another nurse who has worked in W'ford for years and she seems to like it. From what I understand it is growing and they are updating the facilities, etc. Good luck!

I live in north Tarrant Co (Azle) and work in south FW. I drive 45 min one way. The jobs in the Parker Co area are not large in number. FTW is not a far drive and there are TONS of opportunities, just be willing to be up against some competition. With all the new grads and ppl moving into the area, the job field is getting tighter. The larger hospitals will have more opportunities (JPS, THR, Baylor) and better benefit packages. Something to consider with little ones :) Good luck on your search as a family!!

We'll be moving to the area soon and I am a new grad, so this thread answered a few of my questions, too. Does anyone know how the hospitals in Ft. Worth or Weatherford are about hiring ADN new grads? All I've heard are horror stories and I'm looking for a little hope.
