Weatherford College Fall 2012 start

Published

Well, I am not sure if someone has started this topic already but I wanted to find others who will be applying for Weatherford's ADN program this application period. I am scheduling my TEAS for next week. I am excited to apply and see how things go. Would love to hear from others who are applying this round as well. Thanks and Happy New Year!!!!

PS I have been taking my pre reqs at TCC.

Here's to hoping that letters were mailed out today!!

Hello fall applicants. I was thinking about you all day today, remembering how I felt when I was waiting for the "letter". It should hit your mailboxes soon. I saw the post about shadowing a student from TCC and WC to get an idea of the difference. I have a friend at TCC and we swap stories from time to time. I think what WC has over TCC is the class size. I really feel that WC instructors care about your success and want you to succeed. It is overwhelming at first but the instructors are amazing. The girl at TCC says the same thing. She loves her instructors. Our class size is so small that we all really know each other and help one another out. We keep it close and make sure that we all make it to the next week. Nursing school is a lifestyle but is so rewarding. From what I am reading you guys will get in with little problem. The points are wonderful. some 16s, 17s and 18s were in for the spring, a class half the size of the fall. I don't think 17s will be on the alternate list. We ran through quite a few of our alternates, which kills me a little Sim, that you didn't get in. Thats the other thing: if you don't get in one time, try again! I can't wait to be speaking to you at orientation. Good luck!

Jenn, you are always so encouraging, I hope we will have someone like you in our fall class!!!

I have tons of questions already as I prepare, are you using a rolling backpack, I know you were all discussing it, but unsure how that worked out. Do you use all your books??

I am in semester 2 @ WC, I do not use a rolling backpack. I have a big jansport and it works good for me, I even put my lunch bag in it. You will not need to carry all of your books all the time. A lot of the instructors put powerpoints on their site, so I either printed those and followed along in class making additional notes, or just took notes. But, i think that depends on how you study/learn. There are some people in my class who bring their book and highlight& write in it while following along in class. So, I think you will have to decide what works best for you. There were a few books that I rarely/didn't use. But, the main books, the drug book and patho book I still use all the time. They had us buy a Saunders drug guide....but I think with our suggestions they are changing that and having you buy the davis drug guide. So much better!

Great info, thanks Formack!

Thanks Formack and jennrog. Really encouraging words from you guys. Really excited for what's in store. Can't wait to hear more on your personal journeys too. Simcr, you are great example of perserverance and you inspire me to never give up!

I use a rolling backpack for my laptop. I found it cheaper to follow along with the powerpoints on the computer. I didn't have to print so much and for pharmacology the notes they talk about on each slide are on the powerpoints on my computer! Some people in my class have to actually write everything down to retain it. It really depends on your learning style and the teaching style. If you bring along your computer then you can leave some books at home like the giant foundations book since you can access the ebook. It really depends on you. The drug guide, the med/surg book, the patho book, the pharm book, the foundations book, the nursing diagnosis book, the medical dictionary, the lab/diagnostic book, those are all the books I am using currently. But you don't need to bring them all. I really have a spiral for each class, a binder that I use for some classes, and my life line (computer) that I use for everything.

It took me until now to kinda get an idea of what I do/don't need. Then I will hit next semester and start all over! lol

I had a student on campus that asked me why does everyone that wears scrubs at WC have a sad look on their face? I laughed for a while about that. I told him it is all the studying we do! :yeah:

Yesterday my son came back from the mailbox with a small envelope from WC, my heart sank down to my toes! It was financial aid information. What will the next few days be like at the mailbox people?? LOL

Thanks jenrogg! I hope to figure out my learning style soon :). For A&P i read the chapters, took my own note, and notes during lecture and I did great. I know for nursing that I won't be able to do all that so I am working on other styles.

I think you have to combine what works best for you and what you have time to do. Simcr, I think you might do well doing what I did. Read the chapter/s at home on your own, then follow along on your computer or printed version of powerpoint and take notes in class. I star* things that the instructors emphasize, or let you know are super important. That way I remember to go back and spend extra time on those things. I would print the powerpoints in the library as a 6 up(6 powerpoint slides) and printed double sided, it still leaves room to take extra notes.
