First day wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I had foundations skills lab from 8a-2p and foundation lecture for 4p-6p. I am a little tired and a bit overwhelmed but again I think it will be doable. Gotta go and hit the books !!! I hope you enjoy OB!!

I had a long day on Monday I had lecture from 9am-11am, then lab from 2pm-8pm. There is a lot of reading just between the two classes (lecture and lab) but I expected it. I enjoyed every bit of it........Can't wait to see what physical assessment is all about.

Good luck to you all. I happened to really enjoy Physical Assessment myself, it helps to have a good partner, which I did after I switched partners half way through the class. First partner would really get nervous and needed a lot of pushing, she ended up partnering up with a guy who seemed to calm her down a bit. It also depends on the Instructor, we had Pam from HFCC and Mathew S. I loved Pam. She could really teach you the ropes. I know it's overwhelming to take all the classes in, but it is doable and a new experience academically. Study, study, study....keep us posted on how you all are doing...
Good luck from a Second Semester Nursing student!! I survived it...you will too.

Hello everyone! So My first day went well on Monday. I had 110 at NW in from 9-11, and Ms. Dolphus' husband died (she is supposed to be our instructor), so she will not be there all week.
I have a 3 hour break between 110 and physical assessment. It is from 2-6. I must say that I am nervous about it. I have Lovett. She seems nice and everything but she wasn't very clear about what she wants from us. I understand the check off thing. But then she said something about doing write ups. And she kept going back and forth about what she wanted in the write ups.
I will probably just ask her and tell her to be specific. I feel like I am at a disadvantage as compared to the other students. We all introduced ourselves and said if we had any previous medical experience. Probably about half of the 10 in my 118 class did have experience.
The girl that I met at orientation who is in my class with me, used to work at Wyandotte hospital as a CSP....so she knew a lot of the terminology and such.
I know I can do it, I just need to learn everything from scratch! Ok I have to go read a whole bunch of stuff.

I have Lovett on Saturday for Physical Assessment. What books and supplies do we need for her class? Do we only need the little physical assessment book?
Thanks in advance,
Virginia
you need the little assessment book. Also, there is assigned reading from Kozier's. You will need a stethoscope, a penlight, a tape measure. She also recommends a bp cuff. She said that we will be glad to have our own. Also, make sure you dress in lab dresscode. Some people in our class showed up in their street clothes.
Thanks a bunch!!!

I know that I'm late, but I've been all up in Kozier the past few days. I have Maddie and Caroline for 111 and they are awesome! I love them because they take the time out to make sure that you really understand the material. We have 2 quizzes next week. So far, it's challenging with all of the reading, but definitely doable. I'm enjoying the experience and it seems like everbody in school looks up to us. I love it! Gotta go for an hour lunch date with Kozier!
