U.S.A. Michigan

Hi, this is my first post on allnurses.com so if I've done something wrong  please bear with me!

I have a friend who is getting ready to deliver at WBH-Troy, but wants to know what kind of formula and diapers they use so she ca have the same things ready at home. Since I havn't started by mother/baby rotation yet, I can't help her. Can any of you?

Also, is there any "insider" tips to know? THANKS! :D

She could always call the unit and ask.

Hello, I am an employee at WBH Troy. I dont think they would be willing to answer that question over the phone. All hospitals have different varieties of formula, but until the baby is born and has time to see if the selected formula works well with their system I wouldnt recommend going and stocking up. Usually most hospitals send the "New Mom" home with a diaper bag full of baby supplies (formula included) this should get you through the first few days. As far as diapers, your baby could be allergic or you may find that the cost of the particular brand just doesnt fit in with your buget? And may want to seek other brands. I hope this helped? If not, the ONLY person I would recommend addressing these questions to would be the Pediatrician you have already selected to care for your baby once born. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Typically, hospitals supply all types of formulas. Although, if she's going to be participating in WIC, she'll have to use Enfamil. That's all WIC supplies now a days. That, and Prosobee whitch is the soy version.

I think they use Pampers Swaddlers.

Me: "Do you know what? I bet they tell you when you go on your tour!" :D Me thinking I'm so smart.

Friend: "Why would I go on a tour? That's wasting my time." Really?

Me: "Are you sure you're not taking one? Its a great way to find out where to go, get comfortable with the drive, and lots of other things before you deliver?"

Friend: "Oh of course not! I've got way to many things to do! I'm pregnant ya know?" :banghead:

Me: "I remember! You could call the unit then I guess ... that's the advice I got for you!"

Friend "Oh, but I asked you because thats your job, you ARE going to be a nurse!"

Me: "Just trying to help you out, but that's about all I can do for you."

Friend: "Oh. I guess that this wasn't a big enough deal for you to try and find an answer to." :banghead:

Hmmmmmm, not so sure if it's because she's pregnant and has hormones, but I totally feel used. Thanks for the advice. I'll remember it, and pass it along the next time I speak with her, hopefully when she's a little less weird!

PS I didn't realize the hospital gave out bags  thats a nice perk!
