Seattle U APNI Grads

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I was wondering if any Seattle U APNI grads could speak on how finding work was post-graduation. I'm interested in the FNP, especially...

Did you have any problems finding work?

Did you feel like the program prepared you adequately? Anything you felt like you missed during the accelerated process?

How important is the DNP?

Also for anyone that has worked with APNI grads, did YOU feel like they were adequately prepared?

I've looked through a lot of past posts and didn't find much on the outcomes of the program.

Thanks!!! :)

Posting because I'm interested in finding out the answers to these questions as well.

Also for anyone who went through the PMHNP APNI program - were you able to work as an RN before graduation? The current schedule has students going straight through for 2 years with out any real breaks and given most RN positions have you working full time during orientation this seems incompatible with even picking up a part time or per-diem job until you are into the 3rd year of the program - at which point employers may not hire you because you'd leave in a year or so.

For students who didn't work as RNs during the program - how well did the program assist you in networking and making those professional contacts that lead to a first-job after graduation.

For the PMHNP track, many people do work during the 2nd & 3rd year. 1st year everyone is just getting by.

The school recommends no more than 24 hours/week. Out of the 12 or so students currently in 2nd year PMHNP of APNI, I think exactly half are working, and a few more will probably be getting jobs in the next few months.

As for the other tracks, I think that FNP/AGNP are too busy with school to work. Not sure about the CMN. I know a few Public Health track folks are working part-time, too.

I should add that I am in the 2nd year right now so I can't answer any post-grad questions!
