Children's Hospital in DC- preceptorship for experienced nurses

Hello!

I am relocating to the DC area this summer. I am currently a school nurse x 3 years and before that did LDRP x 3 years and med/surg x 1 year.

I am thinking of getting into NICU nursing and I see there are quite a few openings for NICU nurses at Childrens Hospital in DC.

Can anyone comment on the preceptorship for an experienced nurse but no NICU experience? I had a 3 month preceptorship when I went into LDRP and it was fantastic. Looking for the same sort of thing for the NICU.

If I cant get the proper training and support, I know I wont make it.

Thank you :)

Melissa

I am a new grad in the Children's NICU. You will want to contact the manager directly if you can. There is an experienced nurse (non NICU) fellowship that lasts 15-18wks with classes & preceptorship...very similar to what I got as a new grad. The fellowship starts in march however and the new group just started up so no idea if they are taking new, inexperienced people anytime soon.

Thanks! I wont be looking to start till the fall so I'll check the website late this summer.

I would start checking now... I know my situation was a little different as a new grad but I applied for my job in dec of 08, interviewed in Jan of 09 and didnt start working until August of 09...it's never too early to start looking into it with this economy
