My aunt was watching the news last night and said that they may close the nursing program at St Philip's due to the low amount of students able to pass the state certification for nursing. You may want to look into it just to make sure you aren't wasting your time waiting.

That is scary...I took my prerequisites there and wanted to take my nursing classes there, but to be admitted to their RN program you must be an LVN.
Their LVN program is not competitive with regard to entry...maybe that's the problem? I do know a few people who've been through the program and done well, but last time I checked, I think the school's overall pass rate for NCLEX was only around 70 percent.

In 2002 I went to St. Philips college's LVN program for 1 semester and HATED it! There were 3 teachers for all the classes, and they rotated which classes they taught every week. We literally would go over 3-4 chapters in class and immediately take the test. Also, during the mid-terms, they would post all the tests we'd had up to that point on the wall for us to study. It wasn't learning, it was memorizing.
I thought the program was a complete joke, and left after 1st semester and went through another LVN program that opened up in a neighboring town. The comparison was like night and day!
If you're reading this because you're thinking of going to SPC I would say look into the program, talk to instructors BEFORE starting. You may be seriously surprised!

warning this school is terrible. I cannot wait to finish the LVN program and never look back. There are a couple of good teachers there but the evening program sucks. Their clinical classes are a joke, basically you get to do cna work most of the time because the only places they take you to are nursing homes. You have been warned go somewhere else if you really want to learn. Now I know why they lost their RN program. The teachers suck.

I am currently a student enrolled in the LVN program at the extension campus in New Braunfels. The RN program at the main campus was shut down due to a low pass rate. I cant speak for the main campus but the instructors here in NB are wonderful. We have a 100% pass rate and are NOT given the tests to memorize we are taught the information. I would recommend this program to anybody.

is there any one who has recently been in the program who can provide feedback?
