Want To Go For Lpn

HELLO EVERYONE!!!

I AM FAIRLY NEW TO THIS AND NEEDED SOME ADVICE. I AM 26, WORKING FULL-TIME, WITH 3 KIDS AND A HUSBAND. I WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY PRE-REQUISITES REQUIRED FOR LPN PROGRAM. THE SCHOOL I'M GOING TO ATTEND IS A TECHNICAL (PA) SCHOOL AND I DON'T THINK THERE ARE. HOWEVER, I TOOK THE PLACEMENT TEST AND NEED TO TAKE BIOLOGY,MATH, AND COMPUTER. ARE THESE REMEDIAL COURSES OR PRE-REQS? SORRY FOR THE STUPID QUESTION BUT THIS IS MY FIRST TIME EVEN APPLYING TO COLLEGE. I WANT TO START WITH THE LPN THEN WORK MY WAY UP TO THE RN. I WANT THIS SO BADLY THAT I'M WILLING TO QUIT MY CURRENT JOB AND STEP OUT ON FAITH TO OBTAIN THIS. ANY ADVICE ON WHAT I SHOULD DO TO HELP ME ALONG WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO, I HAVE TO SCORE HIGH ON THE TEAS TEST AND HAVE AN INTERVIEW WITH SOME NURSES BEFORE I EVEN GET IN THE LPN PROGRAM. HAS ANYONE HAD TO DO THIS ALSO?

It's hard to say whether those are pre-reqs or remedial courses. I looked into a LVN program at a technical school (equivalent to your LPN) and took their test as well. All I needed was a current CNA license because my test came back high enough. When I looked into the LVN program at the JC, I needed 4 pre-reqs (Science, Math, English, and one other I forget) to apply. I have sense decided to go straight to a BSN program at the local university. Have you asked your admissions rep? They should be able to explain this to you. By the way, I'm all for stepping out on faith to pursue your dreams. I'm doing the same. Good luck to you.

Not in Florida. Just a High School Diploma or GED.

I also live in PA and attend a vocational LPN program. I didn't have to have any courses other than a high school diploma or GED and pass their pre entrance test.

Also, did you look into any part time programs in your area? I go to a part time LPN program since I have four children. It might be worth looking into if your children are young like mine.

I live in PA and all that is required for LPN is high school diploma or GED. My school required you pass the NET test, and have an interview with the director of the School.

I attend part time as I'm working full time.

They are starting to change what ppl need to get into the LVN program out here in CA. When I applied, I took an entrance exam and just needed my HS diploma... but now I think they are starting to require some medical background...I think that even if they dont require anything to get in ... take some courses anyway because sooner or later you will need them for RN or just having that extra knowledge makes things smoother... I already had 4 yrs in medical field and it drastically helped.. I seen others struggling when we hit the floor on clinical rotations ... so any thing you can get helps!!! good luck..oh and also be prepared for some schools making a mandatory exit exam... kicks ur BUTT!....

HEllo.I believe that those are pre requisites.Remedial classes are basically you going over things that you should know from high school like developmental reading and basic math.Good luck,You can do it.

Talk to a counselor at school. The best advice is to start taking some basic classes. TAKE MATH! -whichever one you qualify for because you are really going to need it. The TEAS is a tough exam and a basic math class will help with that as well as with nursing pharmacology math. Also, while you are waiting to get into a nursing school take a CNA course. Have you checked out several nursing schools? Wherever you go it will help if you take courses at your local college and a CNA course. Good luck! :)

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am currently enrolled to start classes in January at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology where they have a somewhat new LPN program. I have to take Math & Computers because I did not do so well on the placement test for those 2 things. Biology is to give me some type of knowledge in the medical field which is a requirement to get into the LPN program. So, I'll start at the bottom and work my way to the top. I have to purchase the study guide for the TEAS and study my butt off, but I'm sure with the classes I'm taking they should help me with the TEAS also. I've looked into Delaware County Community College but their really competitive and I didn't do so good on the NET nor did I meet the deadline to have everything in because of my Criminal Background check not coming in. I didn't look into Folcroft yet but you need to pass a test to get in there also which I personally don't think I prepared to take. The basic classes I should take first and then attempt any tests after those.
