Hi everyone!
I'll be graduating in December and am getting frustrated about waiting around for an interview call. I have turned in a couple of applications (transfer apps because I currently work there as a float pool tech), and after 2 weeks I haven't heard anything. I called HR yesterday and was told my applications went out to the directors on 9/20. I attached an error proof resume as well as a personalized cover letter when I turned them in.
The job I really want is in the PICU. I met the director a few weeks ago while I was doing my leadership clinical, but I did not have a chance to express my interest to her about working in that unit. A week ago my critical care clinical instructor approached her about how I would be a great candidate, but I still haven't heard anything (director said "the name sounds familiar....")! I know it is a highly competitive unit to get a job, and some of my classmates want the job as well. I also know the job is still open (it's been open for awhile) because it's still posted.
I am wondering, what can I do at this point to set myself apart from all the other applicants? I just found out that I'll be doing my capstone/preceptorship there starting in a few weeks so would it be appropriate to go around HR, sending a letter directly to her introducing myself and expressing my interest in the position? Anything else I can do or any other advice is welcome! Thanks in advance for your help!! :spin:
