Walking tall today

Going to try not to post too many details here, but the crux is this: the team responded to a crash call in the adult ICU for what they told us was a stillbirth. Half an hour later, we walked out of there with an intubated, Curosurfed, and very much alive 26 weeker. Especially when our unit is sort of sniffed at by adults and PICU as not a real ICU, it felt pretty darn good to show them what we're all about.

The other shoe drops: we withdrew care on the little one a few days later. Perinatal asphyxia, catastrophic brain damage. I am heartbroken and angry about this like I've rarely been before. We see a lot of bad **** that just happens in the NICU, I can't stand that this situation was caused by pure mismanagement.

:( Sadness. Sounds like you all did everything right, and the resus went well. Don't know what all happened beyond that (and I'm NOT asking, cuz it's none of my business); 26 wks is very immature, and lots can go wrong. If the team debriefs, it will help everybody. Best wishes.
