I just read the most wonderful book. It is called Walking Like A Duck-The True Story of a Nurse Walking From Addiction to Recovery by Patricia Holloran RN. I read about it on this site, but I don't remember exactly where. I ordered it from Amazon.com. I would highly recommend this book to ALL nursing students and to all nurses who either have or have had an addiction problem or who feel angry at fellow nurse addicts and/or to patients who are addicts. Actually, on second thought, I would recommend that every nurse there is read this book. More than any research you can read, this book will help you understand why addiction is a disease, the pain and suffering people with this disease experience, and the possibilities for real recovery that are possible with the correct help. IMO, as a nurse it is our responsibility to understand the disease of addiction and what we can do to help our fellow nurses and our patients. I was very touched by this book, and I wanted to share my feelings with you.

I am on an email list for recovering nurses with that author. She is a wonderful person. I have procrastinated on reading the book, but I think I'll do so now :) Thanks for the review!
