Hello, everyone!
Please, help me with some information about waiting list for RN in community colleges in Dallas area. Here, in MI, in all community colleges there are huge waiting lists (two and more years) to be accepted for Nursing program; so, I am ready to move to get a degree (I have all prereqs) in another state. Could you tell me about situation with RN program in CC in Taxes? May be someone heard about colleges with relatively short or no waiting period? Private school with LPN program w/o waiting list is also option for me.
Thanks.

Hi despirate,
Most of the nursing schools in the Dallas area don't have waiting lists. The applications aren't held over from one acceptance period to another you have to resubmit everything each time you apply. Here's a couple of links to two of the schools in the area:
Brookhaven: acceptance is point based
http://www.brookhavencollege.edu/instruction/h-h-services/nursing/
El Centro: acceptance is gpa based
These are community colleges in the Dallas area but there are also some in the Fort Worth area. There are also a couple of 4 year universities in the area (TCU, TWU, UTA).
Good luck!!!
Sandy
Dear Sandy, thanks a lot!
My GPA is 3.5, so I am ok here, but could you please tell me what does acceptance "by points" mean?
Thanks for your time.

Here are all of the RN programs in and around the DFW area, outlying areas included, that I can think of at this moment.
1. Grayson County College - ADN
2. North Central Texas College - ADN
3. Tarrant County College - ADN (extremely competetive to get accepted)
4. El Centro College - ADN (also very competetive)
5. Weatherford College - ADN
6. Hill College - ADN
7. Navarro College - ADN
8. Texas Christian University - BSN
9. University of Texas @ Arlington - BSN
10. Tarleton State University - ADN, BSN
11. Tyler Community College - ADN
12. University of Texas at Tyler - BSN
13. McLennan College - ADN
14. Southwestern Adventist University - ADN, BSN
15. Angelo State University - ADN, BSN
16. Baylor University - BSN
That's a great help, thanks a lot! Wonderful forum and people!
You get points for your gpa on the 4 required pre-reqs in addition to points for the number of other support classes you've completed. You have to take the HESI entrance exam and pass with a 75. You get points for anything over 75. I scored a 90 overall so I had 15 points added to my overall score. The website will show you what the required classes are and how many points each one is worth.
The lowest number of points for Fall '06 was 22 with 40 students admitted. You also have to do a group interview which isn't really as bad as it sounds. I believe Brookhaven just received full accreditation so they will be able to accept more students in the future.
Hope that helps.

At El Centro, it took a 4.0 GPA on the pre-reqs to get accepted for Spring '06, and a 3.77 to get accepted for fall '06.
Good luck!

I don't mean to be a downer but I just graduated from nursing school at TWU and when I applied about three years ago the GPA cutoff for most of the schools was 3.75 and above[. I got lucky because I had a 3.9 but I had friends with 3.5 which is good too and did not get in.. Don't get discouraged though. I don't know what it is like now.. Good luck!
