Good day:
RE: Vote to Raise Passing Standard for NCLEX-RN Exam
The change starts April 1, 2013 and will remain in effect until March 31, 2016.
"The passing standard will be revised from the current -0.16 logits* to 0.00 logit "
Can anyone put into lay person terms (plain English) what this means to those who will take the NCLEX in that time period?
Thank you.

This link may shed some light to your question.2013 NCLEX-RN® Test Plan and Passing Standards
Hi:
Thank you, I did read that early including the two PDF files related to the changes.
None of them give a plain English explanation of what the changes mean for those who will take the test between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2016.

watch the video on that linked page. explains it very clearly and simply. it's less than 3 minutes. if you don't understand computer adaptive testing, you may want to read up on that first.
basically it means the bar for minimum competency is raised. "what was once the lowest level passing question is now the highest level non-passing question." the exam starts with a lowest level passing question, so the first question will be one level more difficult than it is now. the video states they expect the pass rate to drop by 3-5% with the new standard.
Thank you, Clovery for the link to the video. That does help.
The "one level more difficult" also helped a lot in terms of putting the changes into perspective.
Thank you!

I guess this is one way to decrease the number of unemployed nurses.
