hi everyone,
has anyone volunteered at their local hospital before beginning nursing school? i have decided to do this and today was my orientation at the hospital and i can't wait to go back. i'm going to help the nurses and also help out in the chemo treatment room. i thought this would great experience before starting school.
i have not yet been accepted to the lpn program, so i'm putting the cart before the horse but i'm a very positive thinker and already have myself accepted :wink2:
i finally decided what i wanted to be when i grew up about 10 years ago at age 36, however, had to wait until the children were old enough for me to stop working and attend school full time.
good luck to all the students out there!!

hi, i'm going to be starting school for lpn pretty soon too and i was thinking about doing volunteer work at hospices or home health facilities around my area just to basically get a feel of what i'm gonna be doing working as an lpn. i think it would be great!

I'm a volunteer at a hospital and I love it! It was my first real experience in that setting. It's a great idea and some programs are now starting to require volunteer hours. I like it so much that I hope to be able to contribute for many years. We have volunteers that have been there for 20 yrs!!! It's very admirable. And alot of retired nurses and doctors too!
Good Luck!

I am planning to also. The hospital I am going to volunteer at is where the BSN program is, so I expect that after a year, I'll know some names and faces of nurses, doctors, and teachers. (and know my way around! LOL) It couldn't hurt!

i volunteer one afternoon a week at a local hospital. i know the hospital pretty well now and i've met a lot of the employees there (from nurses to janitors). i do enjoy it and it helps me keep my eye on the prize; i see all the nurses working and i know that will be me one day!
