volunteer EMT? CNA? other?

I am currently going into my last year of nursing school, if all goes well of course. I currently have a 3.0 GPA. And so far I am thinking of being a volunteer in the Rape Crisis program held at Bellevue hospital, as well as volunteer in roosevelt hospital just for the summer. I still feel like I should do more healthcare related activities (internships and externships I am currently researching on since med surge class for me starts a little later than other schools). So I am just asking, are there any other opportunities I should consider? I know I have a lot in my hands for the last year but I desire to have some experience. A few people I know told me to either be a volunteer emt or cna? Which is best recommended for a nursing student? Also, are there other activities that anyone can provide?

Hello! I guess to help with your decision you would really have to consider the type of environment you may want to be around. Though the health care fields are demanding and can be hectic you should look more into what an emt and cna encounter on a daily basis. I am currently a cna and I actually like my job. I am not sure if everyone can deal with the elderly/disabled. You deal with their daily care that is needed every day and I mean EVERYTHING! As a nurse, your job is a lot easier working with a cna because we know the residents basically in and out. Hope this helps a little...

are you able to skip the cna classes since you are in nursing school? I know many states do that...otherwise you have to take the certification classes. for emt, even volunteer, you usually still have to go thru a program and be certified.
