I'm curious what you all use for our beloved vision screenings.  Are you an old school letter chart person or do you use a TITMUS or Spot type screener?

In MA we have to use the HOTV chart- no longer allowed to use TITMUS or any other type of screening tool.

From my limited research, it looks like TITMUS gives a 20/30 type reading...is that correct?  Looks like the Spot screener gives a +/-0.50 type reading?  Can anyone confirm?

I would love to use something to make this process go more quickly...

You are allowed a SPOT screener on Pre-K and Kindergarteners under 6, I believe! There's actually a SPOT screener that's available to public school nurses in Mass... If you're interested for next year, get in touch with your Regional Consultant and they can forward you the document where you sign up for it!

But yeah, I use the HVOT charts and the basic stereopsis "E" cards.

I use the Sloan wall chart.  I think I have an old Titmus machine around here, but I was never trained to use it, and I have no idea if it works or not.

In Texas, we only use HOTV for PK. Sloan for K-5.

I use the light box still for screening.

We did just receive a new Pulsoptix screener and I love it! I can test a child in less than 10 sec and it gives me a complete print out of issues noted. Easy pass or fail. So nice!!!

We use HOTV and Lea symbols chart. State law states k,1st and 3rd must be screened by these. Check your state laws on what is allowed.
