New to NOVA

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

Hello, I just moved to Nova. I have been a L/D RN for more than 5 years. Each hospital I have looked into either does not pay well or is understaffed and delivers 1000 babies per month. I am feeling very discouraged.Does anyone have any ideas????

try a staffing or loocal travling agency. DC also pays well, did you knoow that VA is one of the lowest paid states in the USA. Ithink they are in thebottom 5

I had no idea our pay was ranked that low. Wow! What part of Nova are you in? Have you looked into Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg? I would think INOVA Fairfax would be pretty busy and understaffed, but somewhat decent with pay.

My advice - do not do INOVA Fairfax!! I work there now and it is quite horrible. Staffing is terrible, people are everything BUT friendly, just not a place to be in general

When i was in school, I heard we ranked #38 out of the 5o states. That is absolutely horrible- of course Calif was no.1 and Fl was no.2,

Texas pays okay, and cost of living is not hat different form here, actually houses in Houston Texas, nice suburbs like Katy for example costing 175,000 there would run you well over 400,000 here! Something to think about!

I am LPN pursuing RN and plan on taking it right down there. You are short changing yourself working as a nurse in Virginia. Hey, there are 37 states offering you better pay- its ridiculous!

I've never heard a specific number ranking, but I've always heard FL pay is pretty bad. In fact, I've considered moving to FL, and the research I've done, I would make less down there. Maybe Northern VA is alot more than the rest of the state?

I am in richmond, i believe it is about 14.00/ hr, about 26k a year for LPN, 22/hr and around 42k for RN. These are both base pay walking off the stage into the door w/o exp.

I think around here it is now $22-24 starting for an RN. I have no idea what it is for an LPN. When I graduated (almost 5 years ago) it was $18, but at that time we could take certain classes to earn a little more, for example, ACLS, tele, that sort of thing. They don't do that anymore.

You may have to travel a bit if your in Northern VA, but did you look into Washington Hospital Center in DC. I don't work there myself, but I can't imagine they wouldn't compensate you for your experince. Good luck!:balloons:

You might want to try Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, or Reston Hospital.....if you want to stay in VA that is. I've heard Sibley hospital in DC has better pay and might have a sign on bonus.

Well I am FROM northern VA and have been working in FL for the past 6.5 years as a RN. Florida is SAD in the way of salary. I only make $23.50/hr with all my years of experience. I started at $17/hr in 2000. The pay is pitiful... and let me tell you- GAS, FOOD, and CLOTHING costs MORE here than it does in N. VA.

I am in the process of relocating back up there since my divorce is final.
