Anyone applying to Bon Secours Fall 2014?

U.S.A. Virginia

Hi, I just finished taking the TEAS and am applying to the Bon Secours 2014 Fall program. Anyone else applying and if so, how did you do on the TEAS? It's really exciting and with that comes being anxious too..........

Hey! I am currently a 2nd semester sophomore at bsmcon. It seems like they are accepting more applicants each year because there are about 60 something ppl in my graduating class and that was a big stretch from the year before me which i think only had half that. So looking at your teas scores it seems you have pretty good chances. And for supermom, there are a couple of "older" students in my classes (40's /50's) and for gracejeter there are some straight out of high school.. so I don't think education level plays a factor.. I had average grades in college but took prereqs before applying and I think the improvement in my grades helped my chances a lot.. you do have to retake BIO if it has been over 5 years since you took it but you might be able to CLEP out of it.. I know that A&P is required for the NUR courses but mine got transferred over so I am not sure if that is a 2 semester class or not.. The BIO classes are 2 semesters but I think they are offering BIO at BSMCON now and I think religion also, so i am not sure how all of that works.. but I am praying you both get in.. I love it here :)

@hopefulneonatalnurse Thank you so much for all the info!! It's so nice to hear from people who are experiencing the program first hand. I love the diversity in student population, I think it creates a great learning dynamic for all students.

I'm glad you mention that classes are getting larger, and I'm praying that since they've suspended spring applications due to capacity means they'll be accepting more than 80 for the fall. We shall see!

I know that I'll likely have to retake bio, but I'm registering for classes at J. Sarge soon for summer and I'm going to take Bio 102 and A&P 1 and 2 (in two five week sessions). If I get in and they say I should retake Bio 101, I may try to clep out of it since I'll have 102 done by fall semester. I took it six years ago this fall, so hopefully it could get considered for credit. It was mentioned at the info session I attended that in some cases if you have a BS (not a BA) that the 5 year limit on science classes might be waived. Either way, I'm trying to keep my mind busy because I'm so anxious!

You mentioned being in your second semester there and you love it--can you tell us about your experience so far balancing the theory class with clinicals? I know the first semester is the basics, I've gone through the CNA course and work in home health so I'm hoping the first semester I'll be able to use my experiences to "ease" into NS.

Thanks again for the response!!

Hey! That would be great if you could take the A&P 5 week courses. 2nd semester isn't bad. The clinicals are pass fail and are nothing to stress over. You meet in the lab at the school on some weeks and other weeks you meet at the hospital and the more you learn, the more you can do on the actual patients. I love being at the hospital because although you get to practice in lab, once you get to the hospital and work on real patients, it opens your eyes to the diversity of each patient (mannequins are a lot easier lol) and I find myself thinking back like "Okay, what do I need, and what do I have to do next". The only way you can really fail is attendance because you can only miss 7.5 hours (one class is 5 hours). But aside from clinical, you only have one other class (if you have finished all your pre-requisites). It is not too bad if you have developed a study strategy from the first semester because all tests contain NCLEX style questions to prepare you for when you take the actual NCLEX. SO to me, 1st semester was harder because you have to reconfigure your brain from how you are used to taking Multiple Choice tests. But one word of advice I would give is definitely use the tutors.. they are FREE and they are a HUGE help in terms of breaking down what to focus on for the tests because it is a LOT of info! Next semester is the one I am worried about because I will be going from taking 6 credits this semester to taking 15!! :dead:

I'm looking forward to taking A&P this summer, it'll be great to have both courses done by August!

Thanks for all the info about the program, it's definitely where I want to go and I love the way the program is set up.

How did you handle the wait after you turned in your application? I've been asking the admissions officer so many questions and I feel like I'm jinxing my chances of getting in By having so much communication with her. She's so nice but I'm a bit superstitious lol. It's unnerving and I'm going crazy hoping I'll be part of this fall class, but since they suspended admissions for spring I feel like there were so many applicants with better grades that I might not have a chance now.

It'll all work out how it's supposed to, but waiting is so difficult!!

Heyy sorry took so long to reply.. things have been a little hectic. But I was the exact same way about waiting. Ours was suspended too and to make things worse I was put on the waiting list smh.. but just like you, I think I over - communicated with admissions but I believe that it's good to get in their head so they actually know who you are and see your interest. Hang in there! When are you supposed to hear back??

Hi! I totally understand, you must have finals coming up soon!! I'm actually relieved to know there's a waiting list, and I feel like maybe they will begin to only accept students in the fall semester.

This past Saturday marked 6 weeks since the application deadline. Supermom above mentioned they told her we would hear in the beginning or middle of May, so hopefully we only have two weeks left! I haven't talked to anyone in the past two weeks, but I may contact them to find out when we might find out.

Thanks so much for always responding!

Aww ok keep me posted! Praying for you!

Thank you!! I can use all the extra prayers I can get! I found out yesterday that we should get an email this week or next!

Unfortunately I was not accepted. I just got the email and it stated the average GPA was 3.3 and TEAS was 88%.

Sorry average TEAS was 80. Mine was 88.

@Supermom1 I can't wait to hear if you got in! With all your experience I'm sure you'll be apart of the fall class!

I got in!!! I will admit that I have a few tears of joy running down my cheeks. @Gracejeter, I'm SO sorry you didn't get in and I hope you keep trying. Hoping that you continue your studies and keep taking all of the pre-requisites and def try for the JSRCC now. Their deadline was extended to late May (I have heard) so you have plenty of time to get your documentation and take the Kaplan.

Good luck to the others and I'm looking forward to starting this new venture.....xoxo
