Neither shoe types truly protect the wearer from spills, needles, or wheels. I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot and the ONLY thing that does not bother it is, being barefoot or wearing my casual-dressy shoes that are flat, flexible, and form fitting.
I also get backaches from wearing athletic shoes. Also high-heeled shoes do not bother my feet or my back, but I can't wear those to clinical or when I begin working.
So, does anyone have experience with Five Finger shoes or something similar that they wear to work?
Thanks

I have a pair of New Balance 'minimus' (I think that's the name?) a 'bare foot' type shoe & they're sooo comfy/flexible/light!
I would not wear the Vibram 5 fingers to work, they seem very unsafe and a little creepy looking too :/

Crocs maybe? When I see anyone in Vibram Five Fingers shoes I LOL a little inside :)
Crocs kill my back and my knees. Thanks for the input though. :)

I was wondering if you ended up trying out the VFFs while working as a nurse and how it went for you.
I bought the NB Minimus and wore those for several years, exclusively until the summer of 2014, when I tried on my first pair of Five Fingers and fell in love instantly. I mostly wear my VFFS ( I own 6 pair), but alternate with my NB Minimus every couple of days. I work 12 hour shifts and experience no knee, back, hip, or foot pain when I wear VFFs. I started placing tape over the tops of the shoe to protect my feet from spills or needles, which I've have yet to encounter.
