Are you talking about the hospital side or the meadows side? I just left the meadows, I was working there as an RN..... One of my friend's working on the hospital side started working on the meadows side because their census would get low and she would be cancelled all the time..... On the meadows side they have a really high turn over rate and I don't believe they have replaced the hospital liaisons that quit so their census is dropping as well and they are getting "bottom of the barrel" pts so to speak. I can't say what orientation is like on the hospital side but on the meadows side it seems to be very disorganized......CNAs, RNS, and the evening supervisor are all fantastic but the nurse manager, DON, and administrator are horrendous....Also they do not go over facility policy/protocol during orientation, I'm not sure that they even have a facility specific one.....If you can get a job somewhere else I would do it, your license will be at risk in this facility

Also the weekend supervisor is there from 7-7 but this person has been caught napping/doing homework during the shift and mgmt does nothing about it, after 7pm there is no supervisor, it is just the nurses there so that can be a bit nerve racking if you have 19 pts and working 2 carts (they are doing this because of low census)

I can't PM yet because I don't have enough posts! Any other idea? I was hired when the meadows was Vibra, I got 2 weeks of orientation as a brand new RN, often times I would show up and the nurse educator who is now the DON forgot that she told me to show up on that day and time.

Did they let you decide how much orientation you got? It appears that they are more "together" now but I appreciate your input and sharing your experience. What floor were you on?

No they didn't let me decide, I was just told that I was done one day.... I was on the second floor where all the rehab pts are located, I hope they have it together more than before!

That sounds awful- when you are able to pm message me so you can be more candid. I'm happy to say -so far- my experience has been vastly different but I appreciate being able to go in eyes wide open.

I feel like I should leave a follow up comment with my experience, in the interest of full disclosure, related to this facility. The DON was replaced shortly before I started, not very long ago. I was hired as a New Grad RN to the subacute floor. I received a full 6 weeks of orientation and the decision to come off orientation was mutual. I did not orient to the LTC floor or the LTAC. We have had other new hires that came after me flourish, and others ultimately leave. The pace is fast and if you do not have the wherewithal and a strong educational foundation you will be overwhelmed. As an orientee, some days were more challenging than others, but I never felt like I could not ask a question or take a step back. At times, orientation was a bit disorganized, however, I took responsibility for my own orientation and would follow up with leadership to make sure my bases were covered. I was not a passenger, so to speak. I have the benefit of having been a professional in my former career, and the experience and poise my former career lend me have served me well as an RN thus far. Just my two cents :)
