Hello there fellow comrades! I have been peeking on this site from time to time since my decision to become a nurse then was encouraged to join such a resourceful site filled with brilliant minds and beautiful souls. However, this post is not about an introduction it is about being so discouraged after taking the TEAS exam. I am not going to make this a sob story or complain about it but to ask for assistance in gathering the strength in order to retake it.
I had taken the test in May and surprisingly received low scores that could easily make the toughest man cry. With all the hard work I had done in my whole school career; the TEAS instantly made me stick out like a sore thumb within a few hours. I had never been so upset in my entire life and now it got to the point where I am now afraid to retake it.
I am also having a hard time trying to study for it because of being so discouraged. I find myself staring blankly at the TEAS book pages. The material is in front of me so why can't I put it to good use? It is as if my whole system shut down after receiving those scores. It is as if I gave up.
So my question for you out there is: How did you cope with this feeling and how did you overcome it? How did you push yourself to study and make it seem interesting enough to have the material sink in? I am going to retake the TEAS (August 30th) - I had studied with a longtime friend who has a great educational background (master's degree in academics) but still have the doubt.
Thank you so much for reading my concern. I really do wish to post on a more lighter note. Maybe perhaps after August 30th?

I'm sorry your first go wasnt great but you get to take it again so that's awesome! Have you taken the online practice tests? There are 2 and I found them extremely helpful! I too have taken it once but wil retake it again in January just before applying to a program. Just keep your head up and I believe you can do it! Make sure you are using the offal ATI study guide too.
Good luck! You got this!!
Thank you so much dear. I have been studying from the manuals. I guess I can "over worry" at times. Especially with the test date right around the corner. I will be working hard and will tell everyone of my test results on Tuesday.
I look forward how great you do!

I was so sick to my stomach over this test too even though we got 2 oppurtunites to take it. It counted for 1/3 of my admission score into the program. They way I did it ( not sure if it works with your schedule) is I took it after the first week of the new quarter. I took microbiology and human anatomy so I got basic biology and chemistry reviews without having to study from the study guide. This helped because I was forced for my tests in class to study the material. I would study during the night and day hours I was free from school all that week and took the practice tests online. I got an 84.7 with a 80% in the science portion! This is what worked best for me!

You are not alone :) I have an AA degree, ALL "A's" except for English "B." Yet, I bombed the TEAS..lol! (was like 78% or something...the ranking for my program or however they do it). I am taking another test, different test, for another program and this time I'm going to approach it differently...the in's and out's on "how" to effectively conquer these standardized tests. Let's hope my new strategy works...if not, guess it's a psych degree for me, lol! :) You will do great! Keep the faith in yourself :)

Good thing some schools let you take it twice, mine only lets you once a year if there are seats available. You know what subjects are covered, it could give you a bit more confidence in taking it this time. Sometimes is not what you know, but your attitude that shows with the grade. I kept telling myself what will happen once I went in; I am going to sit down, get prepared, it is going to be electronic, I'm going to use a mouse, I know that _ is going to be covered, _ is counting on me - just telling myself this days and hours before the exam lessened my anxiety.

Hi,Im sorry about your Teas test. I know how you feel. I have been trying for two years to pass that test. I just took my test on Friday, and came within one point of passing. OMG! I was so upset, and ready to give up!! However, after being a C.N.A for 9yrs,I cant give up! I want to really be a nurse! It's in my heart!! I take care of the elderly, and love them! They (elderly) are rooting for me to pass tis Teas exam,so I can't let them down. I want to be able to help them in more ways. So, I finally decied to hire a tutor. I meet with her twice a week. I pray this will help me to pass the Teas V.and become that Nurse that i dream about day by day.... Don't give up! You can do it. If u want it bad enough you will get it! Have faith! Let me know how you do on your next test. Good luck!! I'm not sure whem I re-test on my Teas exam. I think I have to wait 30days. That will be about Sept 25,or so. Bye now :)
Good luck on your test today, Kaytee!
Thank you for those kinds words of encouragement. Unfortunately, I failed the entire test AGAIN. Now I really feel useless especially with a 4.0 GPA and with an AA degree. I am just a horrible test taker.
Here are what the requirements are:
TEAS 40% | GPA 45% | RESIDENCY 5%
READING: 80%
MATH: 60%
SCIENCE: 60%
ENGLISH: 70%
And now drum roll please (prepare to scream at the horrible scores I received):
READING: 59.5%
MATH: 30.0%
SCIENCE: 39.6%
ENGLISH: 53.3%
And I studied from the book, with a friend, AND took plenty of the tests provided by the ATI. STILL I miserably failed and mind you - I really took the time and didn't BS the test.
I'm so sorry Kaytee about you test. However,do not give up! If you want this bad enough it will happen. I know its hard. I'm having a hard time with the test as well. Just keep your head high, and stay positive! I have been making flash cards, and I tape my notes,so than when I'm on my way to work I turn on my tape recorder instead of my radio. Silly i know, but i think it is helping me on the science part. Faith and Prayers for you! :)

Sweetie, I feel your intense pain.... I just took the NLN pre entrance exam today and found that all the time I spent studying was for nothing. The study guide didn't even scratch the surface of the content of the test. I passed this test, but am not sure if I scored high enough to enter the program. Now I am playing the waiting game for an interview. I was hoping to find someone here who had taken the NLN test but it seems that the majority of you guys have taken the TEAS. Good luck and for heaven's sake, don't give up....
