I am thinking of applying for the viu nursing in nanaimo but i'm having a hard tome finding any information on their practicums at the end of each year. Ive called and left messages but i was wondering if anyone had any personal experience in the program? did you like it?
thank you!

I don't have any information about the practicums, but I have heard good things about the program overall. I would be interested in any info that people have though! Are you applying to the BScN for September?
yup I have applied to the program for september and i have also heard things about it! Well, these things I have heard are from a friends going to the school for nursing so they may be a bit biased but overall it seems like a good program!
I applied for September as well! Ha yeah they may be a little biased, but it's still a good sign that they enjoy it so much. :) the whole campus sounds amazing. Do you know much about the application process? I think I read somewhere that it would be mid-may when they let us know, but is that for everything, or just a shortlist? Have your friends ever mentioned how competitive it is? I don't know anyone directly in the program, but I have a friend that knows people there, so it's nice to hear someone else's take on the whole thing.
yup i have called theirs advisers multiple times and sent countless emails so what i know so far is that even with post secondary education( which i have I am in my second year at another university) they only go off of high school marks. and I cant remember exactly but I am pretty sure the program holds 72 , maybe 74 applicants. The way they determine who is chosen is solely on those mark and ranked by your GPA so the highest 72 will be accepted. There is no early admission or and applicants do not get wait listed either; you either got in or not. In May when all the marks come in they send out letters (which is also when my friend found out). The adviser told me the average grades are normally around -A/A to get in. When I applied they sent me this booklet on the next steps and everything then i sent them my transcripts and then they sent me a letter saying they got them and they had everything they needed. Then I applied for residence and housing and paid for that so now its just a waiting game! The only thing that confuses me is that normal high school students do not get their marks until June so I do not know how that part makes sense unless they do by what you think your grades will be :S Are you applying directly out of highscool or post secondary?
I'm applying with post secondary as well. I've got 3ish years, and a couple of credits I'm hoping I'll be able transfer. But yeah, that's weird that they would give the results before the high school students have finished. Oh well! It's still a long way away unfortunately. Do you know what percentage is considered an A- ? At uni it's 80, but I don't know what it would be for high school, it was just above 86 was an A. If you don't know that's fine, I can email them. :)
im not sure that might be good to email them! I think it would it was 80 like uni but im not sure! what is you top choice for schools?
I emailed them and she just said that an A is 86 or above, so I guess an A- would just be a low A. I also asked how many applicants they have on average, and she said usually around 450. VIU and BCIT are my top choices, but after hearing how many applicants there are I'm super worried. what about you?
holy thats a lot of applicants! VIU and calgary are my top choices but for calgary they dont do first year nursing classes its just general courses so im a little put off by that. im also really considering UBCO since they collaberate with UVIC. Ive heard BCIT is a really good program goodluck!
Thanks! UBCO is really good! That's where I did my first couple of years. They also do a collaborative program with Okanagan College, so you would get smaller class sizes. Just a thought! Have you looked at Grant Macewan in Edmonton at all?
i have! i did apply to that one but I've heard its extremely hard to get into so im not really getting my hopes up! have you applied there? Ive heard really good things about the program!
I applied to the one at the college! UBCO has a fantastic program. I didn't apply there to start my degree, I just need a bit of a break from there right now. :) if you were wondering, the average to get in is around 78%, I was talking with them just before Christmas. I'm not sure what the average is at OC though...
If you do get in at UBCO, let me know!
