Anyone starting Valencia College Nursing program Spring 2014?

Just wanted to let you guys know I just got Davis' s comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests With Nursing Implications for $17.98 on Amazon. It's the edition we need and it's brand new. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. What did you all think of orientation?

HEY THANKS A LOT. I will definitely purchase it soon and start reading. Orientation was good, I was still left with a lot of questions. What did you guys think ? Did you get any vaccines or order uniforms?

I boughy my scrubs on Saturday and bought my polos at orientation. I am getting my vaccines signed off on today. Did CPR yesterday so I should have my card soon.

That's great! :)

I have to go to the health department to get my vaccines signed off on and still have to get my physical but I'm going to do that next week. I'm just excited to have everything done.

I have to do that as well.I still have a lot to do :/ Did you join the Facebook page that was created ?

Thanks for letting us know about the book allerina! I will have to buy it soon.

It felt like they packed on a lot of information at orientation which was kind of overwhelming. Did anyone else feel like that?

I took my CPR class today and got my flu shot along with the TB test. So I just have to go back on Wednesday to finish the immunization form and I will be done with everything.

How much was the scrubs?

I haven't joined the Facebook page, yet...

I joined the fb page. The scrubs came out to $52 for 1 set. I felt so overwhelmed by everything but I feel a little better now.

Wow that's a lot for one set of scrubs. I have to get a new lab coat since my other one is three/fourth sleeves; so I do not think it is acceptable to wear.

Do we have to be invited to the Facebook page by the person who made it?

I saw a lot of you all on Friday at orientation, you seemed excited and looked great!! It is a lot of information to take in all at once. Just keep going over the information they give you and make sure you don't miss any deadlines. Another thing I can't stress enough is stay up or freshen up on your dimensional analysis (dosage)! That is a make or break deal in Nursing. Just FYI that, for the most part, is a self-directed learning skill, so learn it, master it and LOVE it!! Nursing I is a lot of work, but you get out of it what you put into it. It's worth the time and effort... See you in January!

I may have to buy a new lab coat as well. The person who created the facebook page sent an email to everyone, so make sure you check that. Thank you @froggie14 ,I have a question, i saw that the Foundations of Nursing book is much cheaper if you get the international one. Do you think this would be a problem? Do we need an access code for this particular book ? How about for all the other ones? If you can please give us a recommendation on which ones we should buy new and which ones we can buy used . Thank you so much for all of your help! :)

Congratulations to you guys, I know how excited you are to start the program. I am just finishing up the 1st semester. It's an awesome experience. Just a little advice, know your medical terminology, brush up on your dimentional analysis, have a positive attitude and give yourself A LOT of time for studying, there is A LOT of reading. Stay on top of your studies, there is really no time to play catch up. They have resources available to you, use them. They have a great program and it is fun. I am excited for you guys, see you at orientation.

Given that nursingl is over for you, I'm hoping that you could give some ideas in regards to what to expect and what is needed to be successful in this class and program. I'm suppose to start May 2014. I was asked twice if I was interested in starting earlier but declined both times because 1. I have 2 small children (age 17 months and 7) and wanted to focus on them and 2. I'm just extremely nervous about the program and I just want to relax until it's my turn. I know once I start I would have time for much else. I found a nursing l syllabus (don't know how accurate it is) and it looks intense. There are about 10 required textbooks on the syllabus and was wondering if all of the books are needed to be successful in the class? I don't have financial aid (already have a bachelors in a different major) so I will be paying everything myself so if some books isn't needed then I wouldn't buy it. I read your previous post regarding brushing up on dimensional analysis and medical term. Given I have never been in the medical field and know nothing about dosage, I'm going to order the dimensional analysis for meds book and start studying now since it is self taught. Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. I'm really excited about nursing and want to be successful in the program and I'm not that person who does things last minute. I want to stay on top of things as early as possible. Sorry for the long message.
