UTMB Spring 2010

Published

Hey guys Im making this thread so all of the applicants for UTMB Spring 2010 can follow each other through the process and help each other out! The application deadline is coming up soon! Goodluck to all!:nuke: I know they are only exepting 60 for the spring.

no problem kcalalang ..it really bothered me that your interviewer said that to you. they know how stressful this process is, how dare she add more unnecessary stress.

thank you hopefulbacc2010!!!

mjbayuda,

when i wrote my supporting statement, i made sure to answer all of their "questions."

"such information might include discussion of"

1. health-related experience;

2. work experience;

3. personal experiences affecting grades;

4. your strengths and weaknesses;

5. your rationale for choice of profession.

6. please explain any interruptions or breaks in your education.

i made 5 paragraphs and covered all of the above excluding strengths/weaknesses (which was kinda inferred in my writings).

i did not go into deep details and i could not tell them everything, but i shared enough info to give them a peek at my story and hoped it made them want some more!

Hey Texaslady, what a memorable first post. You definitely entered the group with a bang.

WOW!!!! Somebody is acting like a looney tune and a hater!!! This is a forum for us to compare notes and help each other and to relate to other students. When certain people on other rooms havent gotten in we all compare GPA's because it helps us to have a point of reference. If you were a part of those you would know that!!!! It also shows some people that you can have good grades and still not get in which is a reality and it makes us feel better to see we arent the only ones who tried super hard to have good grades. You are OUT OF LINE!!!!

As far as my attitude goes.....I dont get on here calling people out....you managed to do a good job of that though.....real mature.

I dont think i am special by ANY means and I dont judge people I DONT KNOW... so grow up! If you cant play nice on here dont say anything at all.

Anyway, we all try to give each other some good info on here and it doesnt seem like you have much to contribute so if you want to act like a child go play somewhere else. If you have anything else ugly to say to anyone including myself I will report you to allnurses.com and I wont participate in child like banter with you.

FYI to all my chatroom friends the only reason i post that more than once is because I cant keep track of you guys since tthere are so mnay conversations going back and forth so I apologize if I repeated myself....ttyl....glad some of you got a laugh....WE NEED ONE at this point even if it was at my expense :) ...good luck and hopefully we hear from them Friday....I was thinking of sending an email is anyone else? OH AND DID I MENTION I HAVE A 4.0....AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...THAT ONES FOR YOU TEXASLADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the confusion guys..some of you may have missed the original posts regarding interviews. I can't remember when it was posted, but the info is on this thread.

These numbers are not in stone, because we could never get the same answers twice regarding them, but a few of us got emails that did agree on the following:

Per "D.T." there was a total of 337 applicants for the generic and BACC2 programs combined. There were 200 invitations sent out. There will be 60 applicants accepted for the BACC2 program and 70 for the generic.

So, given the above info I tried to give kcalalang a better estimate than her interviewer did ..to calm her nerves.

I'll see if I can dig up the original posts later.

Awesome!!! I think that must be the real deal then because that seems to be the consensus....looks like the odds are looking good .

Hey, I'm new to this forum.

I'm trying to get into utmb nursing school in the fall of 2010

I was wondering did you guys have to do this in the online application?

What did you put? How much did you put.

thanks!

Woops I never read the quote parts on these things.....I see now you copied what it asked for....I thought you didnt know what it asked for...LOL....woops. OK....yup we did have to do that. I think I saw someone said they broke it down into paragraphs answering each question. I just wrote one but made sure to answer all 5. I think whatever format you use is fine just as long as you use good grammar and sentence structure and clearly answer each question. Good for you for joining this site...it helped me TONS...I wouldve been lost without it.....also FYI I hear that the Fall 2010 has to take the THEA (?) test.....I think its like the NET....looks like Spring 2010 got lucky by avoiding that. I just found out from my friend who is applying to that class as well....good luck

Hi mjbayuda,

I made sure to answer their questions the best I could, but you need to be sure your personal statement is persuasive. This is the statement that gets you the interview. I worked really hard on it and googled medical essay pointers to get some insight on how to organize it. The most important things I think are having an awesome eye catching first paragraph to get the attention of whoever is reading your personal statement. Really develop how you decided to pursue nursing. My last paragraph pretty much stated what I would do with my degree in the future - work with the underpriveleged/get a masters/become nurse practitioner etc..

This is the only chance you get to really let the reviewer get to know you. UTMB accepts all kinds of students. I am not a typical student. I'm 37 and don't have a 4.0, but I have lots of research and life experience and all that went into my personal statement. 700 words seems like a lot, but it's not.

Good luck to you! Let me know if you need any more info.

Best wishes,

Deb.

PS: I did get my interview and made it into the Bacc2 program for Spring. :)
