Hi My Fellow Nurses,

My name is Letisha, and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I am seeking an online Family NP Program. I know about Frontier, Downstate and Utica College. Does anyone have any reviews about Utica's online FNP program? I know it's a relatively new program. Any info is very much appreciated!

Wow. I’m very confused too. I actually sat this semester out (Utica) because I was afraid I would be wasting my time and money. I applied to Stonybrook but won’t know if I got in until February. I am looking into alternatives, like Molloy, Pace, Downstate.

PriPat, I have to do some investigation on what the regionally accredited means.. does that mean we will never be able to be CCNE certified even if they eventually gain accreditation?

Ah I was wondering the same thing ! Such a kill joy .. I was suuuuperrrr excited that the process was easy and I got accepted, I was going to apply to stony as well however they make you come in for interviews then you have to wait and although it sounds petty.. I just didn’t want to wait anymore ? I wanted to start somewhere and just know I got in

Yeah now I’m not sure if i should Accept or decline. The guy on the phone was confident that they’ll become ccne by the end of the year because their Bachelors programs are ccne. But I don’t know if we would be able to sit for FNP Certification exam or not which is key. I thought It was through NYSED Like the RN license but it’s not.

I don’t think the guy is telling the truth because from what I was told, in order for a school to gain accreditation, a class has to graduate and complete the program. The first ever FNP class was May, 2019. We would have been the second class if we started in September. The fastest that one can complete the program is 2.5 years. So I think until they finish, they can’t get the accreditation. I can call the NY BON and ask.

I was sad too because it was such an easy process to get it. They worked fast and were friendly although the reviews for their R.N.-BSN weren’t the greatest. I just want to know if NYS will grant us a license in FNP from a non accredited school. We don’t take state boards for FNP, we just have to become board certified CCNE or AANP.

We can still work with a FNP license, but most jobs wants you to become board certified to independently practice

Yea I saw the reviews on the BSN, I didn’t see one good one .. I wonder why.. I’ve heard of this school too it’s not like it was one of those fast track BS ones you see advertised on TV that aren’t accredited .. ugh this is so annoying to me cuz now if that is the case About waiting Until that class graduates we will never know.

I’m just tired of getting letters of recommendation , I think that was the biggest pain because I have to bother people to do it

I just called the AANP and told them the situation and they suggested a different school unless i wanted to wait to see if they got accreditation first before starting the program.

Yes! The letters of recommendation. I asked my supervisors for three different schools so far.. Utica, Frontier and Stonybrook. I’m so ashamed to ask them again for any more. I don’t know what to do. PriPat, I agree. I don’t think Utica is safe to trust as yet until they get accredited. It’s a risk we are taking

I had Also inquired about frontier and i was Told they aren’t accepting NY based applicants. So just make sure with that! Yeah i may Just decline:( both fnp certifying people told me to find someone who is already ccne because its Not guaranteed

Yes, I was also sad when Frontier stopped accepting NYS applicants. They were earlier this year and then around April there was a freeze. I really wanted to do it online because I didn’t want to quit my Mon-Fri 9-5 job but if I don’t get into any online schools I may just have to go in for schooling.

I work mon to fri currently.. I was planning on sticking with it until clinicals .. but I cannot quit completely, I was also going to try Pace and GW I think. I almost didn’t go for FNP because I couldn’t find one online and was going to do MSN in education and it’s not even what I want

Did you guys look into Chamberlain? It’s NJ based though.. you gotta have a NJ license and do your clinicals in NJ

That’s the same for me Yankee, I really didn’t want to leave till clinicals. Some schools you do online for the didectic the first year and half then bang out clinicals. Some schools do both class and clinicals. Utica was didectic first, clinicals later.

Too bad.

My job actually pays my tuition 100% if I did nursing administration or nursing education but I really want to become a NP ☹️
