Hello everyone. I was searching for a thread but could not find one so I am starting this discussion topic for USF MSN non nurse spring 2018 applications.
Lets all discuss our stats like GPA, volunteer experience, etc. I have a decent prerequisite GPA right now. I have registered for Micro and psychology and will be taking in fall. My undertgrad GPA is 3.15 in computer applications (not that good). After working in customer service I was no longer interested in computers so decided to change my major.
Lets start this journey together and good luck to everyone.
@trojan10 first semester clinicals for you guys are all at Laguna Honda and most shifts are usually 700am to 430 pm. Sometimes there is a nightshift 300-1200. As far as NCLEX goes they have changed the policy to where you have to pass the exit HESI before you can take the NCLEX. I believe the exit HESI is in the 5th semester. Once you pass your NCLEX you are free to work but 6th semester has the CNL internship which is essentially a job by itself so it is entirely up to you at that point
@mzt I lived in the north bay but moved to the area because i thought it would be easier. there are people in my cohort that commute from san jose or other areas so that option is entirely how you feel. class schedule depends on the semester, your first semester you have a day where classes span pretty much from 11am-600 pm. other semesters it is different. clinicals in general mostly have either a morning shift or a pm shift if they have a professor that wants to do so. for this semester though there was no option for night shift every clinical was 7am. as far as working part time goes again it is entirely up to you and how you feel you manage your time. personally since your class will have the same tract as our class did (we started spring 2017) i would highly suggest not working your first year since we don't get any real time off time semesters. what i mean by this is you essentially go from january until december with one week break in between your semesters which is honestly not enough. your second semester in the summer has 3 HESI exams and your third semester is filled with writing papers and hundreds of med surg practice questions (i just finished this semester we are all dead tired). it is not until your semester 3 when you get a 6 week break (for your cohort specifically since you are on the same track as my cohort) I do not really study on campus but a lot of individuals go the library.
hope I have answered your questions if you guys have anymore let me know. I will be sleeping :)

Thanks for making the Fb group! Followed :)
@jagait I think the program overall is great in terms of the teacher to student ratio. most teachers you have genuinely care and want to help you. having said that there are a lot of curriculum changes that need and are being considered. For instance, during Fundamentals for 1st semester we did not learn anything we were supposed to such as IV pumps, how to prime a line, etc. Then in our 2nd semester for Peds and OB nurses at clinical sites would ask us to change IV bags but we had no idea how to do that. Also our class thought Peds and/or OB should be later in the program and that Med Surg should be earlier than the 3rd semester. Overall the program emphasizes the CNL role too much without providing us with the fundamental nursing skills. My best advice for you guys is to be very outgoing during your clinicals and try to do as much as you can even if you do not know. Hope this helps and does not discourage you. I am still happy with my choice to attend USF but it is not perfect by any means.
HI all, I've been a silent follower for this thread... has anyone heard anything back from USF? I know calls went out last week but I still haven't had anyone change in my status!
Hi
I am also waiting to hear back from SF. My status still says submitted. I also read that people were accepted on Friday, but I haven't heard of any calls going out today yet. I just want to know where I stand. :/
Hi everyone,
I have been following this post for awhile and got my rejection letter last week. I thought I had a decent application as I have been working both as a patient transporter and medical assistant for almost a year from graduating from college. I finished my undergrad in health sciences with a 3.4 and have a 3.7 in pre reqs. I also have my CNA license as well as volunteering for a hospice and interning at a pharmacy as well. Pretty bummed I did not get in but I will be re-doing my personal statement and asking for new LOR. Any advice for possibly making my app for competitive? Any help would be great! Thanks guys, congrats to those who were accepted and good luck to those who are still waiting on a answer.
