US citizen but just recently graduated in the Philippines. Is NLE still required?

Published

I am a US citizen but currently residing in Philippines. I came here to take up nursing school and just recently, last march i finally graduated the 4 year BSN course. My plan was to go back to US soon after i graduate then immediately take the NCLEX and CGFNS without taking the local board NLE here in Philippines since i was told that it was not required if i am already a US citizen.

But here's the problem. A month after i graduated, I've been told that US has gotten stricter with Nurse requirements and that i should now therefore take the NLE before i leave instead.

The thing is I don't know to whom and where i can be absolutely sure that it is or is not required. Has anyone heard of any updates about this? Or cay anyone with a reliable source confirm about my situation? I dont want to waste time reviewing then taking NLE only to find out it's not required after all. Plus the fact that the board exam is not until December which is still quite awhile from now.

Please help me:(

I'm planning to take the December NLE as well. But the results take until February and when those results come out, you have to apply personally for the license due to the fingerprint scan. If BON would just reply to my letter, we would save money on our plane tickets, noh?

BTW, I'm thinking of applying with BON and CGFNS so while Im in the Philippines, I can walk my papers for the CES and then mail it back to the US via FEDex. When will you be applying for that, before or after the results of the December NLE?

I forgot to inform you. I looked up once the number for the Texas BON and gave them a call. A rep answered by the name of ***** (I think) and I asked if foreign graduate nurses needed a license from where they graduated to apply in Texas. He said no and that was that. He hung up the phone..and up to now...I can't say I can rely on his split second "no." So there you go...back to the islands in December
