If my license expires January 31, 2015... Does that mean:
I can work all day on January 31 ? Or does that mean I need to clock out tonight when the clock strikes midnight?
I go in to work tonight not sure if I can work from 7p-7a or If I'm not good to work that full shift.

Have you at least paid for your license renewal? Your state board may have a grace period, but your specific facility may not. In Michigan you have a 60 day grace period, but my facility does not honor that grace period.

Going to depend on both your BON regulations and your facility's policy. I certainly hope that this will make you not wait until the last minute the next time you need to renew your license.

Most facilities will prevent you from coming into work and working until your license is renewed; working with an expired license is a HUGE risk to the employer and don't want to deal with that liability.

Not to mention a violation of state law by the individual nurse ...

Are you leaving the field upon expiration, or what?
-Working without a license is illegal.
-Working until 0000hrs and then leaving impositions the facility, patients, and your co-workers.
-Call in/get it sorted out.

It means you need to go on the BoN's website and renew your license before reporting to your shift. Why wouldn't you have renewed it already? My next license renewal is Feb 2016 and I already have the majority of the CEUs I need for that renewal.

I read it as your license expires 1/31 at 2359, so as of 2/1 0000, you're working with an expired license.
Whether you could legally complete the shift would be up to your state's BON, and it doesn't help that it's a weekend and no one would be there if you were to call. But if it were me, I wouldn't risk the potential trouble and call out. I'd rather miss the day of work than find out that come midnight I'd was in violation of the law...because the BON isn't going to be very understanding if/when they learn that someone worked with an expired license.
Get this fixed ASAP (if you are able to renew it online before work, you'd better print out the receipt and bring it with you as proof of extension) and best of luck!
