Urgent Care?????

I'd like some advice, guys. Have an interview coming up for a position in Urgent Care, swing shift.

I love the shift, the pay is much better than other jobs, and I like the idea of it. But would really like to hear from y'all who work in similar places - what are the negative aspects? Aside from all the snotty-nosed toddlers coughing in your face, that is.

Seems like that is basically the only kind of patient I've seen, on the rare occasion I've had to bring my residents to Urgent Care. And my folks were there for things like r/o bowel obstruction. But know there must be lots of other things coming through the door. Like what??

i've worked in urgent care's for the past 9 years and love it. you never know what will come through the door next. yes, we see the usual colds, sore throats and coughs but also get the "fun" stuff too. like the 50 year old female who says she has shoulder pain and is having an mi; impending strokes, ortho injuries, psyc patients and more. you need to be able to multi-task, triage patients and be proficient in all aspects of nursing. i can't imagine working anywhere else! good luck in your interview. diane

As was mentioned, lots and lots of cold/sore throat/flu symptoms ...

Ortho injuries in extremities, dental "emergencies", nosebleeds, minor lacerations, foreign bodies & other eye injuries, med refills, rashes, minor allergic reactions, and back pain ... all in a day.

For the Aussie nurses on board. Is "urgent care" available as a work option in Australia? As i've said in other section posts :), i'm currently studying Div 2. My eventual plan is to study Div 1 and then Emergency. I believe that urgent care, in the way it's been described above, would be a great stepping stone to Emergency.
