Urgent care nurse as a new graduate

Hello, everybody! As a new graduate who is working in urgent care, what scared me the most is the follow up phone call. You never know who is on the other end and what questions they would have. I would like to know what topics usually come across on the follow-up calls. I know that it is impossible to know all the answers, however, I would really appreciate it if you could respond with some general ideas. Thanks in advance!

What is the purpose of the "follow up" phone calls in your facility? To poll the patient's visit satisfaction or pass along information from the visit, like a lab result or radiology report?

Thank you so much for your reply! In our clinic, we usually want to know (1)how the patient is doing, such as symptoms getting better, staying the same, or getting worse. (2) if the patient took the medcine as ordered.(3)any lab results need to inform the patient. (4) if there is any questions or concerns. Thanks again for helping clearing my mind a little bit more.

I hear ya...in your case the purpose of the follow up calls is to document how happy the "customers" are with their interaction with your facility..if they were treated with respect, addressed in a manner that was acceptable to them, if the staff made them feel like their concerns were being addressed, if the doctor made them feel like they were being listened too and exhibited compassion and concern for their particular reason for the visit, if all of their concerns were addressed, if their feelings were hurt in any way...yadda yadda...blech!

I am new to urgent care as well! First day is next week, in fact. What I did learn in a year of Skilled nursing is that when someone has that question you can't answer on the phone, write it down, tell them you are not sure and you will call them back soon with the answer and do just that. They will be happy and you will have learned something. The next time that question is asked you will know it right away.
