I know that Children's has a hiring freeze right now (and I assume the whole UPMC system).
I am graduating in August and want to move to Pittsburgh. I was told by Children's that I should apply in January/February for jobs there for August (and that their hiring freeze should be lifted in January). Are the other UPMC hospitals like this? Should I be applying to them at the same time and doing my interviews while I am down there?

Yeah, I know they have jobs posted but I don't think that necessarily means there isn't a freeze. Maybe I'll email HR/the manager and see if it is still happening.
PM sent :)
I don't have any PMs...?
We exchanged PMs a few days ago.

ghillbert,
I was wondering if you know why the cardiopulmonary transplant floor needs RNs. I graduate in June and I would love to work on that floor unless there is some horrible reason why I shouldn't. Do you know if they hire GNs? I know the MICU and SICU hire new GNs but I was curious about more specialized floors. I'm planning on applying after the holidays. If you have any info that you think might be helpful please let me know. Thanks!

Look on the UPMC website and contact the recruiter for the hospital you're interested in; there is no hiring freeze for nurses. . .in fact, they're still holding job fairs for RNs and LPNs.

I work for a UPMC facility. We have been told to expect the announcement of layoffs within the next week or two of RNs and ancillary staff.

I work for UPMC as well, and have not heard those rumors. Instead, we have all ways been assured that those in direct pt care roles (ie RN, LPN, PCT) will not be laid off.
