I am halfway through a 3yr suspension and am obviously not working in the nursing field.  My PA RN license expires this month in April (leave it to me to take care of this stuff last minute).

I have completed the required Continuing Education hours so that does not fall behind, but I am unsure if I need to renew my expiring license.  They are obviously not going to send me a new one so I have not done so, but now I am second guessing and am not sure.  When I go to reinstate my license and it has lapsed/expired it is of course more difficult and costly to renew.  It is Saturday and I cannot call the nursing board obviously.  Does anybody have any insight?  I have not tried and it's possible if I did it would not even let me.  I also do not want to waste the money.

Better to renew as easier than reinstatement.  I just completed last required CE  for PA too.

45 years experience; Holy Moly!  Thanks for replying Karen.  That was my thought too.  However, I attempted to on the nursing board website and it showed that the status was in suspension and renewal was not an option- said "licenses available for renewal 0/1."  Or something to that effect.  So I hope I didn't screw this up and make it that much harder to get it reinstated due to a lapse, but I don't think that was an option.

I have to say that completing the CE's are a joke, at least for the state of PA.  I skim the material and take the quizes because I feel as if I cheated if I don't, and I am actually interested in learning or keeping up with the material.  But I bet more than 50% of nurses do not even bother to- people are busy.

Grrr .... I've been unable to renew despite confirming user name, change password, etc.  In process of moving-packed today  --hope movers arrive in AM so I can contact state tomorrow.  Resume Summer camp position mid June.

Contact the PA BON, via email if possible so you have a record of their response.  Best to get the answer direct from those who oversee such things.
