Hello,

Is anyone here applying to the Spring 2010 nursing program at UTEP? :)

Specializes in OB, NICU, Nursing Education (academic).

Hi there! Not an applicant, BUT did graduate from there in 1983. It was (and is) a wonderful nursing program. They are going to be relocating from the Campbell street location to a brand new $60 million, 130,000 square foot building soon (2011).....LUCKY you!

Good luck at UTEP. Go Miners!

Hey iteachob,

Would you mind telling me what made the program so "wonderful"? Alot of people have said that it is a good school but i just would like to know why. Thank you for replying earlier

Mind you, I graduated 27 years ago......but, I feel that I was well prepared to function as a new graduate nurse. We had multiple and varied clinical sites, both civilian and military. Though I am a native of El Paso, I'm not Hispanic and was pretty much forced (in a good way) to become "culturally competent" in the care of patients from a culture different than my own, something I'm thankful for to this day (even though I now live in Kentucky). UTEP's location provides for a unique focus on Border and Hispanic health issues.....something you won't find everywhere. Plus, the faculty was awesome, and our NCLEX pass rates were superb. You can probably research current pass rates by looking at the Texas Board of Nursing website.

As I look at the school of nursing today, it seems to continue to be a dynamic/growing program. UTEP is making huge investments in enhancement of the nursing program, total research expenditures are increasing, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice program is in development.
