I am hoping others will join this thread and we will be as successful as in previous classes. Relax with our well earned week off. See you on May 20th.

Wow Scarlet fire, so sorry to hear. I thought our group had it bad. There's a HUGE problem with this class. If they want it run the way it is, they need to have supportive coaches who get on slackers instead of letting us do all of that. Yeah I know, learning to work in a group, blah, blah. As nurses we already know how to work in groups! I also had to leave names off papers and feel that should have been the coaches call, not ours. Why don't they look at file exchange, look at DB, then make the cut if needed. Unbelievable lack of professionalism all the way around for this class. We didn't even get our APA draft yet.

I just don't get the group thing and why they are so hung up on this. Dr. B. told us on the phone when we first complained to her, that it is important to work in groups in this class bec in real life in a hospital, we depend upon other healthcare team members to all care for the patients. I think she meant physicians, social workers, physical therapists, etc. Maybe so, but this isn't at all the same thing as working on assignments in a university setting and receiving a grade. Didn't make sense to me then and doesn't now.

I am so sorry to hear you have had such a terrible experience in this class. I wish I could say I was surprised that the faculty expects you to continue to do the work and is still willing to give credit to those that haven't participated, that is all I have ever experienced with group papers. However, I would cut and paste the schools plagerism and dishonesty policy and send it to the faculty and tell them you took an oath to not plagiarizer or cheat on any assignment in this program. By submitting a paper with some ones name on it that didn't participate in completing it you are in fact engaging in academic dishonesty and if you were to let some one write a paper and then put your name on it and turn it in you would be thrown out of the program. It is disgusting that this kind of behavior continues to be perpetuated because there are no real consequences. You have gone above and beyond and done far more than I would be willing too. I am glad you had at least one person in your group that was willing to do their part ( way to go J). Luckily you are almost through with this hell you have been living in for the past five weeks and I hope that you never have to endure such crap again!

we didn't cut and paste the policy but we did address this issue with Drs. B., H., and our AC in e:mails and phone conversations that my partner J. had with them. They obviously were more interested in being "fair" to these students then they were in adhering to any ethical standard. I'm thinking that there must be some negative ramification for a Professor who fails too many students. I'm sure the Dean and University executives look at those numbers, which is maybe why Dr. B. doesn't like to have to resort to this action. I do believe that most universities keep track of these type of statistics and it isn't good for the school to have high numbers. Just my opinion.

Scarlet, I just read ur post. I feel so terrible for u that u & j were basically crapped on by this class. I hope when it's all said and done that u report these problems to a higher authority. The AC & prof's are basically asking u to cheat. There is a question in the plagiarism quiz for the university that asks, "if a student doesn't know how to cite becuz they are from another country, is it still plagiarism?" And the answer is YES! What a nightmare!!! Ughh poor u. I hope things really work out for u & J. You guys did work for 5 people and deserve A's just for the amount of work u had to put in!

I really wish there was something that we could do to about this class. It's such a downward spiral.

Thanks. We do plan on writing this up and sending it on to either the Dean's office or the group who provides accreditation for the school. Luckily, we have all of this in writing.

Hope you get your paper in tomorrow.

Can I just say...bless all of you, because I want to jump in front of a bus just reading this!

Personally, I find the program at UTA to be pretty easy overall - it's quite a bit of work (and therefore time consuming,) but so long as you account for all of the criteria the AC's and professor are looking for, and put forth a good effort, I've been finding it decently easy to get an A.

That being said, and forgive me for being crass, but the discussion boards continue to amaze me with the sheer amount of absolute, incoherent, nonsensical crap that half of these damn idiots write. Like, I swear 75% of them have to be the dumbest morons I have EVER encountered. How hard is it to proofread (this posting aside as I am on negative sleep!)? Or, how difficult is it to properly construct a readable sentence? Use spell check??

I am someone who takes every single criteria on the rubric and incorporates it into my assignments. If people miss something I will go mad. I've worked my *** off to maintain a 4.0 and actually care about my grades - I swear I am going to go into research with guns blazing and make my expectations known at the forefront. What a dumb class. I'm not in the mood for idiocracy and I fear that is what I will find!

I thought week 2 was by far the worst. There were 2 assignments which were difficult enough, but we also had to resubmit week 1 because we flunked it. Seriously, if you get into a good group that's the best. I had one really good person in mine, and 3 who kept talking about what they were going to do and either did it badly or not at all. If I didn't have that one person it would've been even worse.

I have to say, I really liked this school, but Vulnerable pops, Assessment and now this class have turned me off to this program. I feel those classes caused a lot of anxiety, were extremely time consuming, and I didn't learn anything.

You're smart enough to get a jump on it by being on this blog. Good for you. Keep at it and you'll get through it. I've gotten A's and B's throughout my time at UTA, and yes, I'll be disappointed to get another B, but I really think if I had been able to work independently, as hard as it would've been, I may have gotten an A, even with those horrendous quizzes.

I am with you on this, I too will be starting this class with a no none sense attitude. I refuse to let any ones laziness interfere with the GPA that I have worked so hard to maintain.

Found out that our group's final paper was turned in a few minutes ago, so I'm officially done. Thank God this class is over...what a roller-coaster.

I wish it was capstone. Taking Legacy next. Then fall will be vulnerable, leadership & capstone.
