3 credit hour A&P and Micro but UTA wants 4 credit hours - have to retake course?

For my ADN, I took 3 credit hour A&P I, A&P II, and Microbiology. That means no lab component.

When I applied at UTA, they told me they would take my total of 6 hours of A&P I and II and accept it only as 4 hours of A&P I. Have to retake A&P II at UTA.

For my Micro, they said they would not accept it and I would have to retake Micro at UTA.

Fast forward and I've already retaken A&P II at UTA and was about to retake Microbiology. Was assigned to a new academic adviser and he says UTA has accepted my old 3 hour Microbiology. Therefore, I don't have to take it again.

I asked him again to make sure (don't want to delay graduating) but he swears it's been accepted. My impression is that UTA is pretty adamant about requiring 4 hour sciences and not accepting 3 hour classes. Again, my academic adviser says to stop worrying.

Anyone have experience with UTA accepting 3 credit hour sciences for the AP RN-BSN program?

As it stands, it looks like I didn't actually have to retake A&P II but that's already done so there's nothing I can do about it. It's just the Micro I'm dealing with now.

No criticism of your academic advisor intended, but, if it were me, I would double check with the actual registrar's office (or whomever makes the final, official decision on these things) before I didn't take the course. My experience over the years in a few different programs (as faculty as well as student) is that the academic advisors are sometimes not the most reliable sources of info. It would be a shame to find out later that he was mistaken.

Amen to that. Get a second opinion from someone else at the university, just to be safe. I Clepped micro when I was doing the Excelsior thing and that exam Is also only 3 hours of credit. Therefore I have to retake micro for the 4 hours. I'm taking it with intro to nursing starting in 2 weeks.

I actually emailed my academic advisor about my concerns and if there was someone else I could talk to, to verify that the micro course has been accepted. He got kind of huffy in his email response and said there was no one else that needed to verify it because he has already done so.

I'm taking capstone starting next week and I'm saving his emails. We'll see what happens when I apply to graduate. If they give me any problems, I'll appeal using the emails. Worst case scenario is that I have to take Micro, which is what I was planning to do in the beginning anyway. I don't like the uncertainty, but I've done all I can to verify the situation so I'll just have to see how it plays out.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd update.

I finished Capstone, but Microbiology was still showing as "Not Satisfied" despite the assurance of my academic adviser. I ended up calling the graduation counselor who advised me that I cannot graduate. Finally, I got a hold of my academic adviser and told him what the graduation counselor said and I also forwarded him the emails where he said I did not need Micro. He ended contacting someone else at UTA and actually did what he said he would do. I got Micro "satisfied" and it shows as such on my degree plan.

I get to graduate without having retaken Micro!

What a relief.

So I guess I need to get that straighten as well. I have a 3.0 credit micro. Who should I contact
