University of Miami FNP 2016

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has been admitted to the part time FNP program at UM. I applied this week & I am looking forward to hearing back from them in regards to my application. I would like to know how long to wait after submitting your application through Nursing CAS ? Any information regarding the admission process and the part time program in general would be greatly appreciated

Mayrod,

I, like you had a previous non-nursing bachelor. I applied in 2013 to UM and didn't get it. I was told since its very competitive, mostly everybody else had BSN PLUS nursing experience. I had to go back and get BSN and nursing experience. I now will start in January to the Adult-Gerontology FNP!!. I wanted to share this with you so you get an idea the road ahead of you if you decide to pursue the FNP program. Best of luck.

Did anyone not get to finish writing express?? unfortunately i am finding myself in this predicament and am hoping i won't be held back from starting this semester

Hey Nany90!

What do you think of Parallon and HCA. Someone recently spoke to me about Parallon but all i know about the company is what Ive seen online. How do you like with them? Im considering them for work as well?

Also, I applied for ER PT at Mercy Miami (HCA as well, as you know) in Coconut grove (nice bc its 20 min from my house and thats at 730am!). However, Ive heard all kinds of stories about for-profit hospitals... Many people say they are very "turn and burn" with their patients, for-profit hospitals only care about money and tend to have outdated hospital equipment. Also, that they only focus on the metrics and times...What have you experienced?

I really appreciate your input!

Going into this program I want to make sure Im balanced and happy where I'm working since i know school is gonna take a lot of out me already...

Ps.. Cant wait to meet everyone on Thursday!

I started working for Kendall Regional as a traveler when i moved down here. It is a for profit, HCA facility. I can tell you they are always understaffed and don't seem to show any sign of changing that. I consistently get 3 ICU patients and often I am so buried in work that I am there until 8:00-9:00 at night. It is brutal here. Although I think this is an extreme case, I think that Kendall is the worst hospital down here as far as the staffing and work load. Everyone I have talked to has said to go with Baptist. Also, Parallon employees often help staff the ICU here and the ones I have talked to are happy with their job. The beauty of being a Parallon employee is that when you have finals week or something you can cut back at work very easily and focus on the school. The downside is no benefits. Just have to weigh the options. I am thinking about going to Parallon once/if I run out of travel jobs in the area.

I'm applying for the ACNP program that starts in the Fall. Can anyone provide some insight into the interview process and the questioned asked regarding pathophysiology? Hopefully I will get to meet some of you this fall.

medicrn25 - I'm currently in the FNP program and the interview isn't super indepth. The one clinical question I can remember asked if I was working in the ER as an NP and a patient came in complaining of generalized abdominal pain, what would be my thought process? Other than that it was general questions... why did I pick that school, weaknesses/strengths, where do I see myself in x amount of years.

To the people currently in the program... does anybody need/want someone to exchange notes or study with? I just moved to the area and don't know anybody. It could make both of our lives easier! Thanks

Anyone currently in the program have any feedback about the acute care nurse practitioner?

Hi all!!

I've applied for the FNP Fall 2016 full time program and I just wanted to know if they start reviewing applications as they come in or do they wait until after the application deadline? Thanks so much!!

Have you heard anything back after submitting your app?

Only that they received everything and were starting to review applications, which program did you apply to?

Heard today about an interview, check your email!
