Union county college lpn graduates please help!!!

i just graduated from the LPN program in may, i know they are changing the program when i took it, pnu 190 was pnu 110, but be patient they are really good about getting in touch with you, if you havent heard back from them they are probably very busy, but you will find out :) hope that helps!

I just got in before classes started. I had finished all my core classes and was awaiting to be invited to the PNU 190 .. I applied spring of 08 and havnt heard from them so I decided to take another elective...I called them a few days before sept 2 and left a message to please consider me if anyone drops the course. I didnt think much of it....then she called me! She said she would look into my file and see what she could do. I was excited but though maybe she was just being nice....then she called me back! I was in and she was even nice enough to stay to register me because I was leaving for vacation the last day they were registering for class...So my advice to you that was given to me is make yourself known..put a face to the name or keep calling!

I've applied to UCC's LPN program and am now just waiting for a response on my acceptance. I know it's an open college program, however since it's difficult to get into most nursing programs (because of the wait), I don't want to have the mindset that I'm going to get in until I actually see it in writing. Anyway, I have a few questions about their program that I'm hoping can be answered by those of you are already in the program or have graduated.

-Do/did you like the program?

-Do they offer night classes?

-How's the staff?

-Do you feel the program has prepared you to take the NCLEX with confidence?

-Where do they have their clinicals?

-Once you graduated, did it take you long to find a job? If so, how long?

-Would you recommend the program to others?

I'm still new to this area so I apologize if I've asked questions that seem stupid. If there's anything you can share about the program that I may not have asked, please do. I'm all ears!!

-YES, i would reccomend this place (do your prerequistes first)

-No, there werent any glass when i graduated may of 2008, but it could have changed

-Teachers were EXCELLENT, and extremely helpful

-I was VERY prepared for the NCLEX

-Clinicals may vary, but i know Trinitas in Elizabeth, Beth Israel in Newark, Rahway Hospital and few others

-It took be about 2 months to find a job (everyone wants experience)

-I would without a doubt recommend this school

it practically seems like you posted on here and waalaah..you're in! was it hard???? i'm really terrified about my 2.5 gpa ( i had a severe medical issue and had to drop out an entire semester)....it was brought down from a 3.3 (i know that's not super high either). :cry:

can you give me tips about monroe college? what exactly did you use to study? i know that they only accept 30 people! which is next to nothing ..i'm living in the city but at this point, i am even willing to rent a car and finish up there if i can get in. i heard there are almost 100 people testing each day! wow. i'm assuming you just started ...as i believe the programs start jan and sept. i hope to hear back from you!:typing

No im not from CA. But I went to jersey to get into a school. Monroe requires entrance exam and they have very few spots. Try also Boces LPN program. My advice apply to multiple places!

awesome. i was going to apply to a few programs. i live near laguardia cc however, i believe they kind of "bs" you (excuse my french) when it comes to pre-req's yada yada. i like the fact that monroe bases their entrance off of tests. i don't know of too many lpn programs like that. i plan on applying to 3-4 within the next month...hopefully this will increase my chances. :coollook: phew, i'm really nervous. i feel like if i get in..it's going to be just by a thread. i will definitely cry.

what do you feel was the hardest part about the examine? the math...science..etc? what level do they give to you? i'm really piddling my pants thinking that they are going to have some math questions that i don't even know . oh god help me. :praying:

I decided not to take the test since i was accepted to UCC before I had to take the test but buy the book they recomend. Start practicing your math since youll need it for the test and me dosage calculations once in a program. Also practice your reading comprehension. dont worry so much the more places you apply better chances you have getting in

thanks renee_cal! my biggest concern is the math section. although i consider myself pretty decent at math..i'm just not sure what to expect. i know i can expect decimal, fraction, percentage, word problems etc. but i'm wondering if there will be any hard problems that i potentially get wrong since i have long since forgotten the mathematical equation for them. :nervous:. what was the hardest math problem that you encountered?

i just spoke to a rep. @ monroe college and they said that they test is taken in two sessions (sat. and sunday) and is approx. 3.5 hours each. i'm worried...how advanced will those problems get in a total of 7hours? yikes. i haven't done much math out of highschool and i would say i'm probably at a beginning algebra level .
