Hello out there, I'm new to this site. I am a LPN and I work for FL DOC.
Should nurses be sent home if their uniform is dirty??? Not just a coffee stain either???

Yes. Inmate respect is hardwon and professionalism is key to working with inmates and corrections officers. Would a CO show up in an unpressed sloppy uniform with out all their bells and whistles? No.

Why would anyone go to work in a dirty uniform? Ew.

No adult should have to be 'sent home' as if they were an errant grade-schooler. But then, no adult worthy of the name would come to work in dirty clothes in the first place.

depends if they came in that way or acquired it AT work......the first is a slam dunk, go home docked a days pay and dont do it again....the other, well what are they supposed to do? it isnt like a hosp, where you can borrow scrubs......if this is yourself that ran into this issue, i would keep an extra outfit at work or in my car....to play it safe.
Good point. I was assuming this nurse came wearing a dirty uniform, which would be an Ew. Getting it dirty at work is different. That happens a lot. If it's a bad looking stain I've gotten on my scrubs I get a paper isolation gown and wear that over my scrubs for the rest of the shift.

If one of my staff showed up for work in soiled clothing I would send them home, pronto. Part of any job is maintaining a professional appearance.
