understanding peplaus

Published

Hi all,

Before you go jumping down my throat about homework and do it your self - this is not for homework. I just started working at a large aged care place with many residents, while I was on my shift last night they were talking about peplaus theory and asked me to look into it, I have a faint understanding of it - how it builds a relationship between a nurse and a resident, improving life quality for a resident. I have looked up some websites but its like a massive cobweb. Just wondering if someone could give me a more simple explanation of the theory. Thanks

What is it? Are you referring to the psych nurse theorist Hildegard Peplau? Interpersonal relations?

well they just said look into the theory but from what I have read, I do believe that is what they are referring to. I guess it is important information to know when you are working in aged care.

It's important no matter what age group you're dealing with.

I would check Wikipedia as a starting place - it's not primary research, but can give a good overview and direct you to research citations.

Hey, I remember you! You're the "Should the LPN be disciplined for killing a patient with acetaminophen overdose without checking with the RN?" guy!

Could they have been saying Pavlov?

Yes that was a strange one. Just went back to reread. OP could never be really clear as to whether or not the 500g(!) was a typo. They were very ambivalent about it.

Regarding this particular subject, I'd like to know what the OP has found out yet
